June is pride month here and there are a lot of things happening already. The NYC Pride parade is this Sunday and I also plan to go to the Coney Island mermaid parade (it's not gay but it looks like the rainbow brigade.) I just found out that XL Nightclub is having a huge event tomorrow (Thurs 21st) and their guests are Pierre Fitch, Jake Bass, Seth Knight. For some reason I'm curious to see these guys in person, if these VIP gays even mingle with the crowds.8-) (Anyone in nyc going to XL tomorrow?) So what is everyone's plans for this year's pride?

It was last weekend here in Denver. I was busy Saturday and didn't go, but Sunday I watched the parade. I would've gone to the event proper, too, but it hit 100 degrees, and I just couldn't find it in me to head back out in the heat. :)

We're in Fort Lauderdale on vacation so we will be checking out the festivities here this weekend.....if its not raining too hard. The weather has been sucky today...

I think it was a couple of days ago here in Portland, Oregon. I stopped going because there were just a lot of assholes there and got tired of being looked at as if I was some freak or didn't belong there.

The only thing you know about "pride" was when you tried to get in bed with the entire defensive line of the Detroit Lions. And just like that team that year, you went 0 for 16. The only word you're less familiar with than "pride" is "shame".

wanted to go this year but being that i'm not out and my life is in shambles, i'm going to hold off until i'm ready or the opportunity is right but when i'm ready, i'm going to have a fucking celebration. if i die before then, then i'm happy @ how far i got in terms of coming out and self acceptance even if i feel like i didn't do shit.

Plans? um they're already over/done -- I went to one last weekend...(and as usual by myself LOL)
On Sat. I went to the festival/event for a couple hours... watched one of the bands, wandered around some
On Sun I went to the parade
(then went home, not only because it was so damn sunny & hot, but I also had something to finish up there)
Then I went back to the festival/event, mainly so see one music group (but also walked around a bit)

Overall pretty cool, and _tons_ of people there.
I'd deff go to the festival part again :) ... but i'll have to wait another whole year for that
The parade, um...well... probably not (not that it wasn't cool/good..it actually was cool to see) but:
* Being out in that direct sun in one place for over 2 hours .. well I'm kinda paying for it it by getting sunburned :?
* Its too risky .. I gave myself a bit of a scare because I thought I mighta 'outed' myself to my mother by going to that parade

There's another city that has a Pridefest ... but not until September, don't know If i'll go to that one or not
(its much smaller, and even farther from me than the one last weekend)

Everyone around me seemed to be sober. (I think drinking comes later in the day at the festival...)
but someone in the area was smoking pot  yep right out there in public on the street as the parade went by (I couldn't see them, but could sure smell the crap)

I live in Long Beach, went to that with friends. LA pride just happened and my buddy lives around there but skipped it. a close friend
Lives in SF and that pride is this coming weekend, skipping it too. I think that I've decided I'm too old for all that craziness and messery (I'm 25 y/o).

I plan on going to the parade this sunday (the nyc one)

are the parades generally for sober people? I would imagine if me and my friends are the only drunk people at the parade so I'm not sure if I should drink beforehand.
I would go to the parties in the bars and stuff but I probably wouldnt be able to get in. wah. Does anyone know if the gay bars in nyc are really anal about carding people during pride?
Show up sober to the parade. NYC pride is "tame" and touristy friendly. The drinking is best left after the parade; plus it's going to be hot weather. There is some pride fest after the parade where people go for music, food, and alcohol. As for carding, most bars are still strict about carding even on pride day. But I think you might find some places that won't be checking especially during the day.

I don't know yet but I always go to the Aids candlelight vigil.

That seems to be about the same time I stopped going to Pride it's a huge joke and so many old queens who still love to troll the booths.

It amazes when people say that Pride is a huge joke.

I remember my first Pride and it was nothing like what it is today, but what we have accomplished as a community in making this event inclusive of everyone is something we should be proud of.

Stay home and complain about the old queens, but remember those old queens fought the fight already and they deserve all the respect of our community.

I went to my first Pride this year and it was a joke. Not because of old queens, though, but young ones.

"I am proud; thus, I will walk around in a speedo and gold, glittery body paint." Seriously?

but who cares?

It's their day to be proud of who they are if they need to wear speedos and glittery paint the more power to them.

why judge them? isn't that something we need to get away from?

There is a demostration in Seville but I would never go there in summer. Maybe I'll use my rainbow belt more frequently this weekend.
