He adopted a girl, married her when she became a full grown woman.

Is there a similar story around the world lets say:
He adapted a boy, married him when he became a full grown man.

any such stories you know of ?

Before he did that, I just found him annoying. After he did that, I just found him repulsive.

For insights into Woody Allan read 'What falls away' a brillant memoir of Mia Farrow. Written by her about her.
Indicators into Woody Allens personality when he was her husband once she walked ino her childs bedroom to find Woody sucking her childs thumb.

I only know him thro the news so have zero knowledge about his personal life.

Why do you find him repulsive?
Did he do anything bad/illegal ?

First let's get the facts right:
1. Woody Allen's current wife was the adopted daughter of his former lover, Mia Farrow (they were never married or lived together, but had a relationship), and Mia Farrow's ex-husband, Andre Previn. So, Woody Allen never adopted the girl, her adoptive father was and is Andre Previn.
2. The "girl" was 22 at the time Woody Allen got into a relationship with her
3. the accusations that Mia Farrow then made against him of him abusing her other children were never proven. It's strange that she only made the accusations after she was angry over being dumped by him! Otherwise, it means she knew he was abusing her children and kept having a relationship with him for years. Or the accusations were false. What seems more likely?
4. was what he did illegal? nope. in bad taste and emotionally damaging to others? yes.

It doesn't affect my opinion that he has some good movies. Annie and Manhattan are classics of American cinema, for example. His output is very variable in quality though. His latest movie was excellent however -- "Whatever Works". It's very very funny. Has some great gay characters as well.

I'm a plebe. His movies never did much for me.

i agree with your comment. if it were not for the New York eastern establishment he would never have made it as a film maker.

He is a disgusting pervert who makes lousy movies.

You are forgetting the fact that he has a large fan base for an independent filmmaker outside of North America.

I am wondering what movies have caused this prevalent low opinion of W.A. as a film maker in this thread? His output is very variable: some of his movies are pretty self-indulgent and trite, others are very good. Plus he has dabbled in various genres from screwball comedy to Bergman-like drama.

I try not to think about his personal life, it detracts from my enjoyment of his movies - of which, his best are the ones in which he does not personally appear.

See: The Purple Rose of Cairo.

I'm a huge fan of his movies. As for his personal life: if I only watched movies, read books, or listened to music by people I respected, I wouldn't have much of any of those in my life.

Could not agree more, watched half a movie and thought it was crap. Never knew all the other stuff about marrying his step daughter, all a bit weird but not illegal, let him get on with it. My thoughts up till 5 min min ago, were none at all.

I enjoy his films (some more than others) I don't have to judge his morality, and as ViennaExpat83 has said he didn't make anything illegal.

They're not celebrities--by any means, but I know a girl who took up with her dead husband's teenaged son...like months after he died. Obviously, I can't help but wonder if anything had been going on prior. If they get married he'll be stepdad to his 1/2 siblings.

Never really cared much for his movies, although some of my friends do insist they're among the greatest things ever made...

As for his personal life, it's a tad creepy...Especially if you've read anything about his behaviour towards Scarlett Johannson over his past couple of movies, and his penchant for asking her HIGHLY inappropriate questions.

I'm quite fond of Woody, he's made some great films. Some of his short-story writing is quite good and his early standup is pretty awesome.

Zelig and Sweet and Lowdown are my faves of his movies.

As for his presonal life, none of my business. Though I saw an interview with him not long ago and he seems to really love his girlfriend and they've been together for some time now so good for them.

I saw him and his ladyfriend near my house last year going for a walk, apparently he comes to Melbourne every year for the Jazz festival.

Woody Allen is insane.

From May:

I am pleased with Obama. I think he’s brilliant. it would be good…if he could be a dictator for a few years because he could do a lot of good things quickly.

the famed director said that he is making his films in Europe because it is too expensive to shoot in New York.

You wanted Obama and his high taxes. You got higher taxes and now you flee the US because of it. Insanity.

Typical liberal thought process.

:rotflmao:

Woody Allen is more apreciated in Europe than in USA. Here he get's bigger finances for his movies. I don't know how high are taxes in USA but probably in Europe are higher.
