It depends if you view the Onset of Spring aka LiChun as the proper beginning of the year, according to some traditions in chinese astrology. The Onset of Spring occurs sometime around Feb 2nd to Feb 4th so. I was born before that date, so technically, I'm a dog, but, the year already began on Jan 27th, so I entered Pig.
