I clicked windows but I didn't really read the question, I thought you were asking what we had.

Really they are all as bad as each other but going down the list windows is the most buggy but has the most support from 3rd party stuff, great for games and aplications, linux is the most stable but very little support compaired to the mainstream windows. Mac is a good mix of the two though. I personally would always have windows, its just easier and I've spent too much money on pc games for windows!

They all have their pluses and minuses. It depends what you want to use your computer for, and how technical you when using a computer.

I use Windows XP. It probably isn't the best. But I need it to connect to work.
Also for Quicken, Turbo Tax, stuff like that.
My favorite OS was the old IBM OS/2. That was really great. IBM fucked up the support.
I'm perfectly capable of dealing with Linux. I use UNIX at work and do a lot of work also in UNIX System Services on the IBM mainframe. Not afraid of a command line. When I get home I don't want to screw around with it. I just want the damn computer to work. Thus, Windows.

Indeed. so i voted for all three. ;)

Windows: for wide computability of software
Linux: for security and one stop computer use (a lot of the Distro's have "everything" you need already built in).
Mac: is heavily used in the graphic, animation, photography, etc world. i'm sure it's good for other stuff but i don't have one so i can't really say.

i use primarily windows XP, but i am trying to switch over to linux (go Knoppix!). ;)

I've been using ubuntu for maybe a year now. My (cheap) laptop came with Vista Home Basic, but I thought it was way too slow at some things. A friend told me ubuntu was good for beginners. After a particularly frustrating day with Vista, I formatted over it with ubuntu. I was kinda scared at first, 'cause I'm an idiot. Vista looked better than ubuntu, but ubuntu gets the job done, and a lot faster and without crashing. And it is so great not to have to run all that stupid anti-virus crap that always wants to scan my hard drive for a few minutes and download updates for itself. I'm free!

:band:(UU)

I used Windows for years. It is very frustrating, not knowing how to do a lot of things in Linux. It isn't as easy to get hardware installed and stuff running in ubuntu as it is in Windows. But I'm very slowly learning, and I have to say it was worth the switch! After using Windows for years and ubuntu for maybe a year, I don't think I'll ever go back. ..|

Ubuntu's cool!

I so totally wanted you up until now.
*runs back to his Ubuntu and Arch linux camps*

lol ubuntu doesn't work on my machine. not from version 5 up (i've only tried those versions). and knoppix does everything i want. i do wish they'd hurry up with the DVD release of 5.2. it was due last spring! but has been delayed a lot. maybe we'll skip up to version 5.3.:p

^ 5.2 is only available in europe due to licensing problems here in the united states.

it's not that much different from 5.1.1

Mike:

You need the alternate install disk. (I had the same problem. I couldn't get ubuntu installed on my desktop until I used alternate install).

Go to:

http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

Check the box under "Start Download" where it says "Check here if you need the alternate desktop CD":

The alternate install installation is text-based, rather than graphic, and you can't run it "live". But it should install ubuntu to your hard drive normally.

(I don't know why some hardware configurations require the alternate install. Ask Orion!)

I've been using linux exclusively for about 14 years - since kernel 0.99, and distributions of lots of 3 1/2" floppies. I wouldn't change for anything. It has its faults, but it's robust and extremely well-designed. Macs are nice looking, but "under the hood" MacOS a bit of a shambles: the mac filesystem has been described as being "utter crap". Windows is totally beneath contempt: Microsoft should be ashamed of themselves.

PC Mag review of Apple OS X 10.5.2

Leopard again raises the question of whether to switch from Windows to a Mac. I've found Vista to be a major disappointment that tends to look worse the more I use it. I still use Windows XP for getting serious work done in long, complicated documents. But OS X is easier to manage and maintain and I vastly prefer OS X to Windows for Web-browsing, mail, and especially for any task that involves graphics, music, or video. Leopard performs all such tasks even better than previous versions did—and Leopard is the only OS on the planet that works effortlessly and intuitively in today's world of networked computers and peripherals. Leopard is far from perfect, but it's better than any alternative, and it's getting harder and harder to find good reasons to use anything else.

at the end of the day who cares

the os isn't really what you use it is programs and features all are very stable competent OS's which allow you to get your work done or edit your pics surf JUB and post here all have windows with 3 buttons at the top drop down boxes complexities and simplicity
