About 25 years ago a friend and I thought about driving across America for a holiday.
But when we saw the type of places we would have to drive through we changed our minds.
I didn't feel we would be safe in some of the mid-west states
I must admit I do like to travel by train and plan a trip to Luxembourg in the Autumn.
I was born in Norfolk, Virginia, and Norfolk, is the home of the Joint Force Command (JFC Norfolk), the Level One NATO Operational Headquarters in North America.
Norfolk is also the home of the North Atlantic U.S. Fleet Forces Command for the United States Navy.
The number of UK nationals in Norfolk, Virginia, exceeds the native population of the entire Hampton Roads area, that includes the city of Norfolk. Fred Mills would feel right at home.
Maybe you can understand why my parents were alarmed by my decision to attend college in Arizona. They had to have a conversation to inform me that the USA I knew along the Atlantic coast is Not the same USA I will encounter when I travel away from the eastern seaboard. It would have been the funniest conversation of my life were it not for the look of horror in my parents eyes!
The United States is a lot more complicated than I learned in school, but I'm quick on my feet and a fast learner. I'll do my best to face the future.
