  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

What degree did you earn from graduating college?

It's also hard to get entry-level positions in your field when your school's carreer center says, "Well, I'm not sure if we have anything to help you... We'll look, but don't get your hopes up." Likewise, all entry-level positions in publishing in New York require me to either be: A) a glorified secretary to get my foot in the door; B) have at least 5 years prior publishing experience (as a "preference"); or C) thate a $15K cut in pay.

Since I've shifted the topic, who actually works in their field and how did you get that position?

I work in my field, since there's an insane amount of demand for research scientists in pharmacy and drug development in Montreal. You should see some of the benefits these companies offer

BA in Communications-Journalism
MS in Education
permanent certification to teach Nursery School through Grade 6 in New York State

I got my B.S. in Biology, concentrating in microbiology. Currently, I'm working on my Masters of Public Health (M.P.H.) in biomedical science.

YES i do, i love my job! :) I'm lucky enough to work for a middle sized game production company. I get to work from home, 90% of my work is content based (art, graphics, 3D modeling, etc... Which is evident if you look at my profile page too ;) ), and we submit it to the company online.

It's really a great job, for me anyways. Comes with nice perks too (especially if you are a gamer), umlimted access to game Alphas and Betas (that our company is making anyways), free copies of the games, etc... Except we aren't allowed by contract to disclose what games the company is working on, or even divulge what company we work for; for fears of corporate spying and content theft. You can imagine gamers out there would do just about anything to get pre-release info on a game.

I also do freelance VFX work, for Television and Commercials. But that's more once every now and then.

I study computer science, and although Im having a really hard time with school im looking forward to finish and study a degree in Graphic Design. i wish i could do something like you. really I envy you.;)
