  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

What did you name your wireless network?

HiveMind

Everything on it is Borg name related... hell I keep threatening to trick it out to look like a cube :D

My Techie friend made it so other people couldn't see my wireless network. He somehow cloaked me so I don't show up on any wireless lists.

Unless another Techie has a look. This cloaking is just security by obscurity and kinda futile ;)

Defense attorney: Are you telling the jury that you ANNOUNCED the name of your wireless network on a message board?

Nope, what you should tell the jury is that your wireless router BLASTS the network name into the air and for everybody to see, multiple times per second.

He also made it so I had to physically enter their PC "MAC" address to allow access to my wireless system. Is this safer/more reliable/secure?

He's able to hack his unhackable neighbors with some program he uses in Linux and use their wireless.

No .. MAC addresses can be spoofed. Not by everyone, but with linux - for example - it's easy :) As the "cloaking" it just protects you from "drive by" surfers and neighbors. Someone willing to crack the network still will be able to do it. A high encryption (no WEP, no WPA-1) is the only sufficient protection.

Mine says it's WPA-PSK. Is that good?

I live in the middle of nowhere and the only neighbors in range of it are related to me. So, it called whatever the default name is.

Next up, a thread called "What's your network's password?".

It's name for my fish... in my old apartment, one of my neighbors had their named "WeCanHearYouFucking"

Oops.

:rotflmao::rotflmao::rotflmao:

THAT is freakin' Hilarious!

... and a great way to give anonymous messages to annoying neighbors.

It's the same as my user name here on JUB. I used to have it as 420°, but the degree symbol is a pain in the ass sometimes.
