What do you all think about fox hunting...???

Do the fox hunters ride their own horses to catch their own pests in the privacy of their own land? Do they ask the taxpayers to pay for all their expensive horse equipment?

^No Pat, they used to use common land until the ban.

And i am certain they do not demand that the yoiks pay for their saddles, breeches, boots or whips............:p

^ What if the conservatives fulfill the above?

Will you be most outraged?

They should be riding their own horses catching their own pests in the privacy of their own land and ignore the busybody / sticky-beakers from outside.

I'm an American. My personal opposition to hunting in no way means I'm comfortable with making it illegal--now having said that I think it's cruel and that in a just world our furry cousins would get to hunt humans who engage in such activity, but this is a moral opinion, not the beginning of some kind of legal advocacy.

Oh my goodness!

You're so obviously not possessing a chunk of agriculture or forestry; or any kind of notable business. Otherwise you wouldn't be (again!) ignorant to the fact that not only Socialism For The Poor, but also Socialism For The Few exists: for the Rich, there is on the one hand "corporate welfare" — and in this particular case we have agriculture/forestry subventions :)

No, historically, this kind of hunting is actually much more French than British.

I know that Camilla Parker Bowles enjoyed a little sport.

You obviously never visited quality people during the mid to late Victorian period.

Oh, you cannot know that, can you? ;) Visiting the Victorian period? — not worth the effort, IMHO.

Excellent! You can be assured that I'm absolutely PRO-hunting, just one prerequisite: the hunters eat their prey. Not their dogs shall eat it, but the human hunters. Especially in the case of fox hunting — fox is de-li-ci-ous, isn't it, my Upper Class friend Max, haha!

Camilla Parker-Bowles fox hunting near Highgrove with Beaufort Hunt, Tetbury, Gloucestershire, Britain - Jan 1995.

Before the ban but after she fell for her prince.

I seriously doubt she eats the common fox. She lives on Royal food fit for a Royal.

Reading people as U and Non-U is a fairly easy task. Class cues are fun to read. In the UK mere speech is enough. But online one looks for other signs.

I honestly cannot imagine a context in which any U individual would claim to be U on random internet fora, that's a sure sign that one is non-U.

In the case of British U persons even politics are a tricky subject. One is very likely to support the Conservatives, but haltingly unlikely to publicly say anything that might be perceived (even remotely) as racist/hard right. Unless one is an utter toff, like the actual child/sibling/grandchild of a peer, that is such a faux pas that words fail. Toffs are a special breed of U persons. They get to be vulgar. They have titles--or their near kin do. Most U persons are not toffs though. Most are just from old consistently comfortable families (who might be distantly related to toffs, but still are utterly aware that while they are both U they are not the same folk at all).

Otherwise, certain ways of being, just small word choices, positions taken, etc just scream non-U. Maybe they expose one as being the Hyacinth Bucket aspirational middling sort of non-U or maybe even (much less likely) the grotesque rich who are also non-U.

If you understood this there's a decent chance that you are U.

You might be surprised to know how un-Royal the tables kept by most members of the Royal Family are. One understands that Her Majesty the Queen Mother was the last major member of the Royal Family to eat and drink like royalty. I think there are a fair number of bacon and egg sandwiches sat in front of the Sovereign herself for instance.

^ Yes, but you must remember that the Royals have servants and aren't required to clean up their mess.Let's not forget that any egg they had probably came from a Royal hen and any bacon from a Royal pig.

I'd also add here that while every British U person I know is a monarchist, most of them consider the Windsors to be just a vulgar family of nouveau riche, German arrivistes--with an exception for the Queen herself (the crown and age successfully protecting her from the general opinion of her family had by U persons).
