What do you bisexuals think of 'faux' bisexuals?

Hi,

I am gay, but I am one of the gays that believe that bisexuality truly exists.

But this is a question to you people who are real bisexuals...

What do you guys or girls, think of these people (straight or gay) who are calling themselves bisexuals either because...

1) They're not ready to come out as 'gay'.... OR

2) Some guys/girls think it's trendy to label themselves bisexual even if they're not.

What do I think? I actually hope that those gays who are labeling themselves bisexual get to a point where they accept that they're not attracted to both sexes. And I just think that number 2 up there is funny.

These people disgust me. I loathe them extensively, they're the reason so many people "don't believe in" bisexuality.

I'm actually not bothered by any of these people. I don't mind it if people feel they need to take that step through bisexuality to accept that they are gay. If it helps them to become more comfortable with themselves, then sure.

The second group I've never even heard of before so I have no opinion of them.

The people that actually irritate are those jasoncrew mentions: the ones who say bisexuals don't exist. Saying that is one of the easiest ways to piss me off. Usually I say something along the lines of "Thank you for nullifying my very existence. Go fuck yourself." Sometimes I add a "Have a nice day" because those 4 words piss some people off quite effectively.

I also believe that bisexuality truly exists, but not many others do because when it comes down to it; many bisexual men end up with other men. When you're in a opposite sex relationship, you're in a straight relationship so therefore you're deemed "straight". When you're in a homosexual relationship, you're "gay"; regardless of whether or not you can get it up to a hot girls tits.

There are a lot of pretenders who use the label as a stepping stone however, and to that I feel: "Whatever helps you sleep at night".

I guess I think people have every right to chose the “label” they want to give themselves.

I’ve always been Gay – but now have good reason to think I’m actually BI.

In the past I’ve always thought (strictly) in my own mind - that BI guys are really gay “underneath”.

I now think that this idea I held was wrong – and that people have a broad range of sexual possibilities.

This does include the fact that there is no such thing either as a 'faux' bisexual – they are just people on a different part of the “sexual spectrum” and shouldn’t be criticised for this.

Frankly, who cares about "faux" bisexuals,whatever their motivations? As members of the LGBT (I'm bi-curious), we've all got far more important things to worry about within our community.

Since the beginning, the entire GLBT movement has ultimately fought for one reason: To show to the world that there's no shame in being who you are sexually; that it's okay to be yourself.

So what's with all this hate against bisexuality? It baffles me that gay people - who should understand this more than anyone else - are afraid to admit any bi-curiosity they may have.


A lot of people who're in the process of coming to terms with being gay struggle with the fact of "I'll never get married and have babies naturally like everyone else does". I think a lot of young gay people desperately want to believe that they're bi as a way around this; to believe that they can fit in and be like everyone else.

Just because they aren't actually bi doesn't necessarily mean that there's no one on the planet who's genuinely bi.

It really is. The last time I heard someone say this was when i was in 4th year uni. We were on our way to Toronto to visit our partners at Mount Sinai for our thesis project. One of my friends in the car said "There's no such thing as bisexuals" I can't remember why he said it, or what we were talking about or what happened afterwards.

I didn't say or do anything at this point in time though because I was still in the closet. It just boiled beneath my skin. Probably wasn't the best way to handle it though.

Appolgies - but I'm not a native English speaker and can't actually follow what you're saying - though I think your ideas on how Civilized we actually are would be interesting if I could understand these.

Also - I still have trouble with all the rules for writing English - but shouldn't it be
"labels are important" as the subject is plural? or maybe this is one of these frustrating English things like Sheep being the same singular and plural - or if more than one Clitoris should be refered to as "Clitori" rather than "Clitorises"
