The U.S. election finale is within spitting distance, yet some people still seem to have trouble articulating why they favor one candidate over the other.

So, I'd like to know what is the issue that you care most about -- OTHER THAN GAY RIGHTS! (I know this is a gay-oriented message board. So it's a given that most of us would be concerned about gay rights.)

I'm a union worker, so for me, I'm concerned about how unions would fare between the two candidates: President Obama supports the rights of collective bargaining. Governor Romney supports so-called right-to-work laws, which weaken unions. Therefore, the candidates' stance on unions is my number one issue since it affects me personally.

That's not to say that I don't care passionately about the candidates other differences. For example, my partner doesn't have health insurance, so I want very much to see the Obama model for health care put into place because I think it has fewer restrictions than Romney's model would have.

And I apologize if this thread excludes those of you who live in countries other than the U.S. Non-Americans should feel free to comment on their own country's issues and how the different political parties treat them.

On a whole host of issues involving dozens of reasons, I just don't believe that Romney has demonstrated that he really cares about the middle class and his foreign policy stance has been weak, if not blemished by his disastrous trip to the middle east. I think that he will simply be Bush all over again. I also don't subscribe to his far right ideology. In short, I simply don't trust Mitt Romney and I believe Paul Ryan is a puppet of the tea party, as demonstrated by his allegiance to Grover Norquist. It is scary to think that Ryan would be a heartbeat away from the oval office. Many conservatives and moderate republicans were against the appointment of Ryan before they were for it. Rightwing media simply made Ryan an icon.

regardless of who's president, i care about how i'm going to survive. things are not going too well right now.

and i'll say it now. obama is going to win the election. it MIGHT be close but i seriously doubt that romney is going to get it. with that said, i look forward to gay marriage being legal by 2013 in the united states. (!)

I'm not American, but I care enough to hope the People of America will elect someone who isn't a complete moron with the power to press the nuclear button and wipe civilisation as we know it out.

Wow.... you ARE an optimist! ..|

The economy is the #1 issue, which is why I voted (early voting in CA) for Mr Obama. Mr Romney's plans would explode the debt, kill any shred of long-term security the middle class in this country has, and he's so in the pocket of the same neo-cons we had with the younger Mr Bush that I just know he'd get us involved in yet another war we can't afford before his term was up. Mr Obama is far from perfect, but perfect is the enemy of good. Mr Obama is good enough.
