... whatever you may consider "reputation", and no matter whether it is measured to your own sense of self-respect or The Other's sense of pride and prejudice concerning people.

In trying to think of a response to this thread I've come to the realization that I just don't care anymore.

No one would tell that, even if they could allow themselves to think of it.

Doesn’t HT already stink enough?

Being black and outspoken. It makes me perceived as an evil racist fire breathing dragon that hates white people. No matter how courteous, if I rock the boat and disturb the white equilibrium Im public enemy #1.

^ But. Isn't that what a black person's reputation is expected to be like in America?

Not initially. We're welcome if we're willing to be a quiet subservient non-offensive BBC mandingo buck. We're on the top of everybody's fantasy list, so long as we're a lamb and not a lion.

in my world your word IS your reputation -

Good point. Words can speak as loudly as actions. The words a person chooses essentially ARE actions. I'm remimded of Nobel prize winner Toni Morrison's quote about how words can even equate to violence.

Does anyone really know what their reputation is? Isn't that for other people to know?

That is why common people commonly care about what politicians say, not about what they actually do.

Knowledge of what other people think of you

I would think reputation has more to do with a pattern of behavior, or even an attitude that people expect from you.

What I meant is that it's probably not uncommon to develop a reputation for something without being aware of it, at least at first. Were you aware you had narcissistic personality disorder before your diagnosis?

The real world isn't like JUB.
