Personally when im out and about, i tend to stick to wallet, keys, phone, and some sort of pass (work id or railcard etc.).
Just out of interest and the need for a new design project what do you keep in your pockets when you leave the house and when you get home do you a certain ritual of where you empty your pockets and such.

Two house keys on a Canadian Centennial key clip. Nothing else.

I carry my wallet, a quarter (for the FreshCo shopping cart deposit), and a Kleenex in my T-shirt pocket.

Keys, wallet, phone. That's it. Wallet has driver's licence in it, so that substitutes as ID when needed.

Jeans: Keys front pocket, wallet back pocket, phone either or.
Shorts: depends on the number and size of the pockets.

-d-

Wallet and keys in one, phone and pen(and knife should I feel the need) in the other. Gum and receipts in my back pocket. Lighter in a shirt pocket.

I keep my phone and tobacco in my front right pocket, wallet and passport front left, keys and lighter back left and any flyers or other crap I end up picking up while I'm out in my back right pocket :)

I always wear jeans so this never changes unless my lighter ends up in one of my jacket pockets/someone else's pocket

well i have four young kids -

so i always have tissue, various wrappers from things that the kids hand me, small toys that i find on the floor, receipts, change, keys, wallet, cell phone.

My youngest is now mostly potty trained. I often carry a disposable diaper with me in case i needed to change her when we would go on our adventures (so i don't have to lug around a diaper bag).

when we get home, i usually empty the bigger stuff - wallet and keys and put them either in a dresser drawer, on top of the piano.

Left front: keys for house, garage, office on ring. Car key on separate fob for unlocking door, trunk, alarm etc.
Right front: coins & pill case and sometimes phone
back left: wallet & comb
back right: empty

Keys front left.
Phone front right.
Wallet back left.

On Person:
Wallet: BankCard, AMEX, VISA, D/L, Insurance i.d., Social Security Card.
Handkerchief.
Sm. bottle prescription pills.

Someplace: phone.

Wallet
Credit card wallet
keys
spare keys
napkin
cell phone
Ipod Touch
used to carry reading glasses in a case, but lost them, have a little magnifying glass now
gum
pen
Little coin bag !oops!

I usually wear cargo shorts so they have 6 pockets.

Left Side Belt Loop: Keys
Left Front: Wallet, Headphones, Chapstick
Right Front: iPhone

Back pockets have nothing.

Wallet, phone, keys, boyfriend's hand, a tissue, gum.

Car key/fob & Burt's Bees lip balm in front right pants pocket. Wallet in back right and iPhone either in front left pants pocket or shirt pocket (if it has one). Loose pocket change immediately goes into my desk at work, car console or into cups inside my closet - can't stand jingling change. I lost my house key years ago so I use my electric garage door opener to get into the house.

Front Left: Keys, Phone
Front Right: Pen (clipped on), Knife (also clipped on), Change and Receipts (if I have any)
Back Left: Thesis Notebook
Back Right: Wallet

When I'm home for the night, I put my notebook, wallet, pen and knife on a little shelf by the front door. Change is sorted into jars and receipts are stuck into my checkbook for later balancing. I set my phone on the living room table.

…Just out of interest and the need for a new design project …
I want you designers to design an minimalist ultra-simple foolproof tool for everything.

I have a CHAIN attached to my belt loop;
one end goes in my back pocket attached to phone
the other end goes in front pocket with a wallet and ONE front door key

My pocket distribution changes with my clothes; the only standard is that my wallet (containing only cards) goes in the front left pocket and my money and lip-balm (Burt's Bees with pomegranate oil!) in the front left. I distribute my keys into whatever pocket is closet to the hand I used them with last, or clipped to my front right belt-loop; my pocket watch goes in the front left if I'm wearing one but not wearing a vest. My transit pass (a new acquisition now that my car is dead) goes in the top pocket of my jacket or vest with my iPod. Everything else (phone, camera, book, notebook, bottle of water, sunscreen, etc) goes in the murse.

i keep nothing in my back pockets but in my front pockets i carry my cell phone and money and that's about it.
