What I most dislike about Birmingham is its appearance. Frankly, it's a dump. What I like about it is that there's plenty going on, including theatres and a busy gay quarter. It also has good connectivity, for instance 1 hour 20 minutes by train to London or fly to Amsterdam in about 1 hour.

The only generic dislike is maybe the closeness of the houses. And we like most of our neighbors.

I like that I live in a solid deep blue political region and except for this winter I love the climate.

I dislike the insane cost of living.

The people are what I like least. Too many throwbacks.

I've yet to meet an honest contractor in five years.

The area prides itself in not being as bad as Birmingham or the southern part of Alabama, but it lacks cultural or poliical diversity, and tax reform is woefully needed.

Infrastructure is horrible. Power lines are leaning everywhere, and then they spend a bit of money and put in larger metal poles making it all uglier. Roads are too small, no shoulders, no sidewalks, and no bike trails or lanes. Yet the city is daft enough to claim paid-for promotions that claim the city is among the best places in the nation to live.

Recycling is a joke here. Tippers everywhere, but no real glass recycling and no collection bins at communal locations. Large items waste disposal is next to non-existent by design, with residents allowed to dump entire house contents on the ditch for a month until the solid waste picks it up.

Evangelicals of the most conservative kind constitute at least 75% of the population.

Theatre here is mostly pap, no real drama or companies producing anything of import.

There basically is no mass transit.

Car washes are everywhere. It's insane. Water is not conserved in any way.

The military is elevated here due to Redstone being here and the gaggle of defense contractors.

The roads are full of trucks, SUVs, and pretentious status cars.

Women are allowed to drive here.

What I like best is the BBQ, and nature, and the prospect of being released soon, based on time served.

The view is the best thing. I sit up on a hill that overlooks a river. The river bends away to the south and I look straight at an old stone bridge and a waterfall. The road bends so if you’re looking up or down the street you can’t see the houses on the side of you. There’s a big open field behind my house so no backyard neighbors.

The bad thing is driving up the hill in the winter. The worst thing is no dishwasher!

We love our farm and the community.

I can't even say I hate the snow...although winters here are probably what I like the least. Except they give us the Springs I love so much.

I like the large rooms and high ceilings. I like the openness and the layout. But am actively now planning to move. I would stay here if it were not for one thing. That one thing is crime. I hear gunshots at least once a week. There are car break ins, thefts, car jacking, catalytic converter thefts regularly. Kids shoot out car windows "just for fun". Too many drivers speed through residential neighborhoods and run stop signs all the time. I've had to repair a leak because a bullet put a hole in the roof. I've had to replace my stolen air conditioner. Home invasions are on the rise, as are robberies and muggings. I do have an alarm system. Cars with no mufflers zoom through streets at all hours of night. You can't have anything delivered to your home unless you are ready and waiting for it because it will be stolen off your front porch if you are not. I'm afraid to take the trash out after dark. The police are overwhelmed, underpaid, understaffed, and unable to do much. I love my house, but it is time to get the heck out of here before I get shot carrying in groceries.

The republicans in Florida suck, it’s the worst part of living here.
the weather is beautiful
infrastructure is beautiful, roads are nice, wide and nicely kept. Government building gs are nice, modern and clean.

I live one county west of Cleveland. I enjoy going downtown for baseball games but I truly think Cleveland doesn’t use their lakefront to the best they can. I’m thinking Baltimore’s inner harbor. I had a lot more fun there than I ever have in Cleveland

I live one county west of Cleveland. I enjoy going downtown for baseball games but I truly think Cleveland doesn’t use their lakefront to the best they can. I’m thinking Baltimore’s inner harbor. I had a lot more fun there than I ever have in Cleveland

I saw an article on Bloomberg CityLab about a big plan (design by David Adjaye) to redevelop the Cuyahoga River front. I wanted to ask you about it, but I didn't see a good thread for it.

And how about Northeast Ohio generally? There must be things you love about it that make up for five solid months of cloud cover ...

I recently had to move house because my landlord was selling up
Because of my circumstances I was eligible for social housing so I put my name down with the local council
Then I got a call from them asking if I was interested in speaking to a Housing Association that may have a suitable property.
I spoke to them and they sent me the particulars. It was perfect
So now I live in a lovely bungalow in a quiet cul-de-sac very close to a bus route and local shops.
Fortunately most of my neighbours are lovely (the one fly in the ointment is my next door neighbour and we have agreed to ignore each other)
I rarely use the bus but, when my car was in the garage, I took it into town. I suddenly realised how fortunate I am as I passed through all the social housing on the way. It is like a thirdworld ghetto!

Hello from Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania.

Things I love here:

Good transit. Real trolleys. And nearby bus routes. (I don't drive)
Diversity. Nobody's a majority now.
Good local restaurants.
A Wawa in walking distance. And another three blocks away.
Well-kept homes.
Easy access to Philadelphia.

Things I don't like:

Slobs. Litter.
Homelessness and beggars, not in my neighborhood but not far.
The local hospital recently closed.

Hello to Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, where my aunt, uncle, and cousins lived when I was a child (before they got truly prosperous and moved to Radnor).
Both my parents grew up in Lansdowne.

Not so much here...well, some litter. But the 69th Street terminal area has more. The El is sometimes a real mess.
