What do you look for in a suitable hotel/motel room?

Is there anything you demand in a room, prefer, or do you just want a room with a bed?

Free wireless internet (how else am I gonna get my porn?), free breakfast is always a plus, and microwave and refrigerator are nice amenities

Room not next to the bar
Clean bathroom, water pressure, with hot water working
fresh linen,...... check for bed bugs (that is important)
TV that works
internet connection (not a deal breaker)
and do not come pounding on the door to clean the room if the Do not disturb sign is on the door knob!
...any other options are nice too but not needed

This works for me.... ;)

It depends on the purpose of the trip and the location. If it's a spa getaway I want something roomy and comfortable. If it's just to sleep then just a clean room, private bath, please and a comfortable bed. Oh, and a balcony is nice for outdoor sex.

Was this hotel once part of the Canadian Pacific chain? I've stayed at two classic CP Hotels when I was in Canada...the gargantuan Royal York in Toronto, and the castle-like Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City. I believe that they are now part of the Fairmount chain.

I like these ones:

One of those massage thingys on the headboard, separate entrance and a cash only option.

It's a railway hotel, but different railway...
Grand Trunk Pacific Railway

THey did this one in Edmonton too, which was then bought by Canadian Pacific:

CP then bought Fairmont, and dropped its own name because they thought "Canadian Pacific" was less marketable. Of course they were idiots, because CP was to hotels what Vienna is to opera. I'm glad you found out about them though.

By the way, Chateau Frontenac is probably the jewel in the crown and I'm jealous that you've stayed there - I have yet to stay overnight though I have been...

A large bathroom, cus we like to take showers together a lot..:sex:

This is Rosarito Beach Hotel in Baja Calif.

We went there for xmas 2 yrs ago and had a blast....

For total economy - this is the cheapest hotel room in Waikiki - clean and nothing nothing special about it-- just 1/2 the price of the next most expensie crummy room - and it comes with a voucher for coffee and a muffin every day !!!

A fridge, microwave, and wireless Internet, to start with. I often bring in my own food for dinner when I'm traveling on business.

And a must-have is lush bedding. Pure cotton sheets (no synthetic blends!), down pillows and comforter, full mattress pad, and lots of pillows (six is minimum ... really!)

I try to get business class hotels, even when I'm not on business trips. They almost always have the right combination of amenities and quality. Hilton Garden Inns are great. ..|

But, it varies by city ... I've had a hell of a time getting a good hotel in Houston. The Courtyard there sucked, so I switched to Hampton Inn, which sucked even worse, so I decided to pay through the nose for a Residence Inn. That was OK -- didn't need the extra rooms, but at least the bedding was good. *sigh*

Cable television is expected, but a nice bathroom is essential and clean sheets are mandatory.

I will always be haunted by the Dateline (or one of those shows) expose I saw where they used a special chemical and blacklight to show how some places cut corners by neglecting the laundry! *shudder*
