This does make me wonder; if a married gay couple from Canada or The Netherlands would be on a holiday in the US, and one of the partners would fall ill, would the other be seen as family? Do the same-sex marriages from the above countries even get acknowledged in the US?

that's a good question

anybody have answers?

Interesting question, but I think there would be hell to pay if they didn't acknowledge them. It would be no different than a married straight couple. If they denied gay church-sanctioned marriages, they would also have to deny straight marriages.

Glad I live in Massachusetts.

but that civil unions

why not fight for full marriage rights?????

If you look at that little dark blue bit south-east of Lake Ontario, that's Massachusetts and the dark blue stands for same-sex marriages. (The medium-blue colour is for same-sex unions.)

colombia has done fairly well on this issue - being very catolico. there can be unions. the church still has a pretense of much influence, but so many people i have known never go to confess to the cura at all
ding

i think of crying. i can't believe that ignorance is still allowed to run wild. it baffles me that a government would kill some one for what they do in their own bed rooms. it makes me feel guilty, that i live in a country that won't kill me for standing up and fighting for those who can't do it, and yet i don't. and i makes me wonder how the earth has survived all these years with so many stupid people on it.

It might be worth while to remind everyone at this time that the two men who began and finished the same-sex equality issue in Canada (Prime Ministers Pierre Elliott Trudeau and Jean Chrétien) were devout Catholics. They put religion aside and did what they thought was best for all Canadians. And neither of them, as far as I know, had their asses booted out of the church for it despite objections from the Vatican.

I think it is fascinating that the areas marked as gay-friendly are ironically overlayed with Roman Catholicism in many cases. New England, California, Mexico, Eastern Canada (Where the crusade began) Colombia, Spain, etc.

My first reaction was that I can't wait for Bush to be driven out of the White House and how Greenland has greater liberties. But I was also gratified to see that 6 states in the US joined the ranks. More to come! And I was pleased to see Massachusetts in Navy.

What a divided world we live in.

Im glad I live in MA. But surpringly, MA doesnt really have a great "gay scene".

The country I was born in is the only pink country that I can see on the map- meaning life in prison. That's a weird piece of trivia. Wow, I never knew that.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

My thoughts on the map......

We have a LONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG way to go!(*8*)(*8*):kiss:

That it's slightly incorrect. Queensland in Australia doesn't have same-sex unions, in fact it still has sodomy laws, making it illegal for two males to have sex if either of them is younger than 18 (the age of consent for a male and female is 16).

But it is promising to see so much blue (and hopefully in 5 or 10 years there will be a lot more dark blue).
