What do you usually eat on Christmas Eve?

My family makes lots of food, chicken, rice, turkey, pork, regional food, and lots of wine and sodas, and what I love the most: Deserts. Lots of them.
 
Our family has always done our main feast and such on Christmas, usually in the afternoon after all the presents are open.

Christmas Eve is fun for anticipation of the next day, I never understood how some families did everything on Christmas Eve.
 
Christmas Eve is traditional ethnic and regional meatless entrees as well as fish.

Christmas Day is always the big feast starting with an incredible breakfast and later the fresh baked ham, turkey, leg of lamb and all the trimmings along with an endless array of sinfully rich and fattening pastries, pies and cookies.
 
When i go to my aunt's house this christmas eve, the table will be setup as follows:

half of the table: traditional turkey dinner with all the fixins
the other half of the table: eggrolls, Filipino pancit dishes, kare-kare and rice

it's hilarious to see the dichotomy.

and of course, my brother and i will be knocking back the wine in the kitchen pointing and laughing at my relatives while they ooh and ahh over gossip. :gogirl:
 
I generally don't eat much on Christmas Eve.

Not because I'm trying to leave space for the next day or anything, but mostly because we always have all the neighbours round and I generally prefer to make myself scarse.
 
Fish of all kinds, it's the one day of the year where my dad takes over the kitchen.
It starts with spaghetti with garlic oil and anchovies (Aglio e Olio)

Pasta!!!! i loves me some pasta...i should consider making some for my aunt's party this year....:gogirl:
 
ill be on a bus heading home for christams so whatever they have at the truck stop

but when i get there we will probably have supper (note supper is after dinner and is not dinner) so snacks and stuff chips ,cake ,finger foods and stuff

PeTe, you and I have a shared heritage, and I would answer the same. My grandparents used to do the 7 different fish dishes in a huge meatless meal for the entire family on Christmas Eve. It was an even bigger deal than Christmas dinner the next day!

My grandfather, a master cook from the island of Sicily, used to prepare the following.....
  • Bluefish soup (a delicious chunky soup with potatoes, onions, and fish that was awesome to dip crusty Italian bread in)
  • Breaded fried shrimp
  • breaded and fried fish filets (usually white fish or haddock)
  • calamari (fixed salad style with black olives in an olive oil and lemon dressing)
  • polpo (octopus) cooked, cut into small chunks, and seasoned with olive oil, salt and pepper
  • baccala (usually served with vermicelli or angel hair pasta)
  • boiled shrimp (and lots of cocktail sauce)
and a ton of other dishes!!!!! If you went away hungry, it was your own fault! :D
 
Hmm...

Another 'seafood Xmas Eve' here as well....

I'm not sure how or why it started, but Christmas Eve for us means lots
of boiled shrimp, garlic butter and rolls 'round the tree.

Me, Keith, our friends, my Mom (and who ever she drags in this year :rolleyes: )
Sit and eat and listen to music and wonder how we got so lucky to be together for yet another year...

I hope to dine on these items:

1: Pink Lemonaide

3: Slices of Apple and Lemon dipped in Cherry Sauce

4: Lemon and Olive Oil Whole Wheat Pasta with a Marina Sauce

5: Ginger Bear

6: A circle of heavenly organic corn chips with a smattering of Montery Jack cheese and Orgainic salsa

7: Gay hot chocolate. It's my secert recipe and lord, it's gay.

8: and last but not least, what I like to call "the Pink Goddess". Basically, a raseberry smothie.
 
of course, in Louisiana -- seafood is:king: King all year, so....

about 6:30pm Christmas Eve :santa: we will light our 30 ft high Bonfire behind the levee of the Mississippi River, with LOTS of fireworks to go up with the initial BLAZE .....

then we bust out a BIG pot of seafood GUMBO.......|

and wash it down with generous quantities of beer and spirits....(UU)

the fire will burn into the next afternoon, so there's always people coming and going till the wee hours.....:hurray:

ain't traditions GREAT!!??....:wave:
