What does Hook Up mean? To U

When i hear, "Guess what i just hooked up with Tommy" i automatically think he had sex with Tommy. Hook up means to have sex with someone right?

I was watching My Boys last night, and apparently it could mean different things and now when i think about it, i guess it could but before last night whenever i heard the term, "hook up" i just asociated it with sex.

On the show these 2 kissed but didnt have sex because signals got crossed. Later on one one of them comes in all mad and asks, "why did you tell all your friends that we hooked up the other night"

Right there i was expecting to her to say,"first of all i never told anyone and second of all we never hooked up, all we did was kiss." But she didnt say that she just went along with it.

Later on she has all the guys are over and they have a discussion about what hooking up means and all these things came up.

So anyways, when you use or hear the term hook up, what does it mean to you?

Before i come to this forum,i always thought that hooking up meant meeting up, thats how straight guys talk. When a straight guy wants to meet up with another straight guy for a beer, coffee, etc, thats wat he says. But after i came onto this forum, i figured out it meant something totally different in the gay world. On this forum and beyond, it actually means having sex with another gay guy. but if im wrong, i stand to be corrected.

I think that term applying to teenagers and kids...it probably means that they made out. However, since we are adult...I assumed that it meant having sex.

Hey Trish, yes it would appear that "hook up" could mean different things to different people.

Before i come to this forum,i always thought that hooking up meant meeting up, thats how straight guys talk.

Really where is this so i can book a ticket there ASAP because where i am from, straight guys dont talk like that.

I would love it if a hot straight called me up and said , "newboy12 lets hook up" i'd be on cloud nine.

You are all so very right that it all depends on the meaning and the term has no generally accepted meaning in the area of sexual relatonships. Two persons from different backgrounds are likely to misunderstand each other.

Before communication of the deep sort is possible two people really have to spend time getting to know each other. And, that includes knowing the sexual language of the other.

For myself, I prefer relationships which develop slowly and build to the point where physical sex is so mutually desired that not a word needs to be spoken.
The time to try to find words of appreciation and description of what youv'e shared is in the afterglow.

I do not want less than the best and yet some would say I'm too romantic. You decide. "hook-up" sounds mechanical--like trailer hook-up! Sex deserves better language.

Somehow I knew this stemmed from My Boys before I even opened it...

To me, hook up is subjective. In the present/future tense, You can hook up with friends to go to the pub, you can hook up with someone to go on a date... But generally Hooking up, when used in the past tense, means sex... At least in my group of friends.

When i was younger it meant just meeting up with someone and going out to a club, movie or something like that. Now thought to me it pretty means getting together for a bit of sex.

with my straight friends it's "we're going to hook up around 9 and then will go to the bar"

but it also mean "hey did you hook up with that girl from.... yet"

when used in a sex way it's "did you get your dick wet?"

Its wierd because I just had this conversation with some friends last week. To me, hooking up means having sex. To them it means making out...they're so dumb! lol
