Op-Ed What does the current establishment Democrats stand for?

Until they are offered another option, they will vote for nationalism, the flag, whitelivesmatter, anti-immigration, rolling back gay rights... Right now the democrats offer nothing they feel is real and can respond to.

Gay people voting to roll back gay rights....and the excuse is because the Democrats offer nothing..|......

Whatever.....like what can anyone even say to that?

I say, TA DA. We are not them and therefore we are us. (If either party snags this as a slogan, remember you heard it here first.)

Thanks for the easy link.

I'll quote the appropriate paragraph from your cited article:

In the aftermath of a dramatic, and sudden economic crisis (the sub prime mortgage catastrophe) that affected all demographics it can also be argued that what has been lost in paper terms (lower house values) recovers with an improving economy. Likewise the employment market has recovered sufficiently since 2008 under President Obama's administration the unemployment rate dropped to 4.8 pct.

There is good reason to believe that Barack Obama's administration took sufficient measures to put the USA economy back on the road to prosperity.

Uhh... no

https://nextcity.org/features/view/the-post-recession-homelessness-epidemic

This just illustrates how much better Iceland's approach was -- they bailed out the people at risk of losing their homes, which in turn helped the banks, but more beneficial than helping the banks was stabilizing the economic situation of numerous homeowners. Meanwhile in the U.S., we have people who used to have good jobs and good houses stuck in tents and being chased from place to place by police acting on behalf of people who are upset about how it looks to have homeless people around but aren't willing to do shit to help.

This was what should have been done. But they said that banks are too big to fail.

So the apathy is not with the supporters of Senator Sanders. Most voted for Secretary Clinton.

As for non-voters, either they were suppressed or did not vote at all. When the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act in 2013 and Republican states were starting to change their voting rules, the Obama Administration and the Democratic Party failed to make effective and timely interventions. Indeed, some filed cases but that's that. While waiting for these cases to prosper, what the past administration and the Democratic Party could have done is to assist prospective voters in registering them. Well, its likely that the establishment leaders believed that the money that can be used to help the facilitation of registering prospective voters on the ground is better used on advertisements.

As for those who did not vote at all, the holy grail here is that you better give reasons to participate in the political process. Give them reasons to believe that they are not simply choosing on both sides of the same coin. Show them that you're fighting for their interests. Sad to say, the Democratic Party failed their Democratic base.

If there's one thing, you can say about Republicans, they are mostly one and united in doing their thing. Look no further with the appointments of Justice Neil Gorsuch and the current deathcut bill that is being discussed in the Senate. There are maybe some dissent but when push comes to shove, they fall in line. All it takes for them is some guts to change Senate rules to allow a simple majority to affirm the appointment of a Supreme Court Justice and reconciliation to pass that deathcut bill.

Compared that when Democrats were in power 2009-2010. Democrats, could have passed a nationwide-based public option under the same rules that the Senate Republicans are doing. But they didn't, allowing the likes of Ben Nelson and Joe Lieberman to sabotage it and give them excuse to dilute it in furtherance of the interest of Big Health Insurance and Big Pharma. And from there on, people saw how the Obama administration negotiated with the Big Pharma and Big Health Insurance on writing the contents of the current Obamacare. Hail the so-called compromise. A big gift to health insurance companies where everyone are required to have health insurance or pay a penalty. A proposal to buy imported cheaper medicines from Canada was also blocked at the behest of Big Pharma. The farce is this corporately written law was not passed with 60 votes but through reconciliation when it could have passed the nationwide-based public option using the same method in the first place. Everyone saw this treachery and the rest is history.

Keep blaming voters. That will surely help retaking the White House, Congress, Senate, Governors' mansions and state legislatures.

The Republican Party is currently embroiled in its own civil war how best to deny their supporters quality health care...that, without the noteworthy input of Donald Trump evidencing the failure of the Republican Party to produce a presidential candidate worthy of the office of POTUS.

The blame game is easy, when viewed with hindsight.

Seriously?

Back when Reagan got in...I couldn't find one fucking person who actually voted the next day...

**edit**...I forgot...I did find a few...Republicans...

If they can't find a reason to vote...do they need to find a reason to wipe their ass?...or should someone do that for them too?

The Supreme Court should be reason enough....but do go ahead and make excuses for them.

BTW...if they receive ANY government assistance or PUBLIC EDUCATION or need insurance or are getting old or have pre-existing conditions and would like to live...or like to breathe clean air or drink clean water....and they didn't vote..they are fucking idiots if they couldn't find a "reason" to vote or were too retarded to understand which party will at least take them forward and which party will dismantle everything..a goal they stated....

Homelessness, and poverty are always visible whatever the state of the economy.

Utopia is work in progress.

Please do not move your goal post. You claimed that

I showed you that's not the case. Homelessness still persists post-recession. But wait, there's more. As they say, pictures speak a thousand words.

^I have acknowledged that homelessness, and poverty exist no matter how healthy, or unhealthy the economy.

I can also adopt an OCDesque approach to the matter of the unfairness, and injustice of society...anywhere on this planet... but it does not alter the fact that the poor, underprivileged, and the homeless are with us for reasons that are not always the fault of the political party in government.

People have choices, and do not always make the best decision.

I see. During the last election, the current establishment Democrats did not fail. Instead, they were failed by the voters.

^I can imagine that there are more than a few Republican Party voters regretting their vote for Trump.

The blame game is a particular tool of those who aspire to know it all when the result propels them to attach blame to all, but those who did the voting. There's a lot of blame to share around.

Please do not move your goal post. Point is there was no significant recovery under President Obama which you claimed in the first place. That's why the Deplorable in-Chief's MAGA pitch (of course, it's a lie but that's beside the point) resonated with many last year. It acknowledge what's going on in their everyday lives. You cannot tell people how things are becoming great or already great when they are suffering. It's like telling hungry people in times of drought and famine to eat cake. And you wonder why many people are saying that the current establishment Democratic Party is out of touch.

Just curious..do you and people like Jimmy Dore have a plan to get rid of the Supreme Court? You really should get a plan if you don't already have one....

Your hopes and dreams and demands end in the Supreme Court....and while you are standing on your principles...the Supreme Court will be filled with right wing idealogues by the time you get a clue..IF you ever get one....

^^You're entitled to express your interpretation of the facts notwithstanding that under Barack Obama's administration unemployment dropped to 4.8 pct per Department of Labor statistics.

https://data.bls.gov/timeseries/LNS14000000

You have to wonder what nature those jobs are given the low productivity growth and declining median house income. But hey, things were already great under President Obama so don't let these other facts bother you.

^I am not speculating merely referencing the official unemployment figures that evidence a healthy economy under Barack Obama's administration. The rest, as they say, is personal interpretation.

So decreasing productivity growth and declining median household incomes despite the so-called 4.8% unemployment rate are now speculations and personal interpretations. Focus on the trees then. Don't look at the forest.

Why mention Jimmy Dore? I have my own independent views.

About the Judiciary, sans the Supreme Court, the Obama Administration could have filled up many judicial vacancies from 2009-2014 at the level of district courts and Court of Appeals have they employed a simple majority rule in the Senate for filling them up and remove those so-called blue slips. But oh well.

Again, you cannot threaten people to vote for your candidate. That's not how election works.

Candidates must show their worth and votes will simply follow.

This means candidates must not take for granted the desires of their electorate and think they already got them covered since they believe they will be somewhat better. This is Elections 101.

How about for now, we pray that another Liberal Supreme Court justice will not retire or, worse, die under the Deplorable-in-Chief's term which hopefully is until 2021? While they are alive and active, the current establishment within the Democratic Party can start anew with the electorate and show that they are worthy of the trust and confidence of the latter thru exorcising itself of Big Moneyed interests. Deal?

THe DNC is Pro-Business Center Left as it always has been.

And you consider this to be "Progressive"? The term doesn't seem to match the description ... however being you live in Texas, I suppose your definitions don't really match with actual Blue states now, do they?
