I see the phrase used around here all the time, but I'm always slightly confused as to its exact meaning.

From the context that I've seen it used, it seems to mean 'getting it on' with someone - but doing what?

I'm afraid I don't understand. I've never heard this term commonly used in Britain.

:help:

So it's what we, back in the school playground, used to call 'snogging'.

*wishes that Moe's gif lasted longer before repeating itself*

Lots and lots of kissing. The kind of kissing that can last minutes at a time or longer.

Put your hand on his face, look into his eyes, feel his hand on your torso, gently bite his lower lip, tongue, kissing, more tongue, lean back onto the sofa and continue.

'Making Out" is SO MUCH FUN!!!

Because it is filled with ALL of the EXCITEMENT and ANTICIPATION of what is to come!!!

Then...

The WORK begins...

:):):)

Making out encompasses a very wide specrum of activities from quiet time together, kissing, feeling each other up, frottage and penetrating sex.
I enjoy it all with the right partner.

Making out that leads to sex is foreplay. Making out that does not lead to sex is a pain in the balls.

I'm British and also didn't fully understand what it meant. It's not an expression used in Britain. Many thanks to those who provided explanations and enjoyable video clips.

I didn't know what "snogging" was until I read it in Harry Potter when I was in my mid-late teens, so I understand why people from the UK might not know what "making out" means.

I was confused by this term as well as I was from "snogging" when first encountered. Especially because some people use it in a different context.

Playground, eh? Huh, I still use it. Picked it up from my British friends.

Oh, and to counterbalance 'making out' forcing its way into the UK, I consistently used 'snogging' when I was in the US. :D

 you know, when I read "snogging" in this thread, I KNEW you would eventually find it :D

I'm so predictable.

So, anyone fancy making out a snog?

(Wait, something's wrong with that sentence...)
