What foods is your region known for?

Poutine which is amazing was invented right here in Quebec!! It has spread right across Canada and I believe it can even be found in the US now. People tend to have a love hate relationship with it, I personally love it!!

My favourite fish restaurant on my home island of Rhodes, Greece... located in the medieval city of Rhodes.

Locally caught fish from the South Aegean Sea is served fresh daily at this restuarant, and at other fish restaurants around the island.

count me as a jealous one.....i'd eat that everyday...

According to a Canadian correspondent at DetroitYes:

Another reason we need a wall built between the US and Canada. We can't have that crossing our borders.

Meat pies, apparently.

Frajolaki, which is basically souvlaki on a bun. It was invented in a Greek restaurant in Regina, and now you'll find it in most restaurants all across Saskatchewan.

You can't forget perogies and cabbage rolls... we even have a drive-thru perogy restaurant. :)

I can't think of anything "LOCAL" that we're famous for, but this part of Illinois is in the rather sizable CATFISH belt.

Oregon is known for:
Salem – Cherries
Hermiston – Watermelons
Tillamook - Cheese
Bandon - Cheese
The valley – Grapes and wine
The Coast – Anything seafood
Didn't you forget marionberries?

The cheese curds can go...leaving the fries and gravy, which are wonderful!!!

You're familiar with DetroitYes? I go there sometimes.

Meat pies, apparently.
Australia, also. They're everywhere.

I'm just waiting for somebody in here, from Hawai'i, to (WRONGLY) come into this thread and extol the wonderful and wondrous virtues of SPAM. :vomit:

"Some two star town"

I'm thinking about changing that to "A thousand miles from nowhere".

We don't seem to have created anything famous. Pretty good pecan pie if you're into that sort of thing. Nothing famous though.

Can we at least get a state? Louisiana?

New York is the state of surprises!
Because of our varied landscape, having the nation's largest city, and a very long history of being a technological leader in the New World, there are numerous foods that the state is known for inventing and making.

Potato Chips were first made in Saratoga Springs (also home to a famous battle of the American Revolution).
New York has two wine regions, the Finger Lakes of Western New York, and on Long Island.
New York State Cheddar and Cuba cheese is made in Western New York, south of Buffalo.
Speaking of Buffalo, the chicken wing appetizer has been raised to a fine art because of Buffalo's famous Anchor Bar, and Duff's.
Rochester's gastronomic contribution to the world is The Garbage Plate, made famous by Nick Tahou's Restaurant.
Western New York is famous for its apple and grape crops. We also grow peaches and cherries as well, much of which is canned and sold nationwide.
Syracuse is known for its specialty sandwich called the spiedie.
New York City was home to America's first pizzeria. New York Style Pizza is a taste treat!
I know that I am missing items from my list. But, I think you get my point. New York has an important place in American cuisine.

Ronboy is correct---the whole Hudson Valley is known for it's farm to table food---
and of course NYC has the greatest variety of pizza from authentic brick oven from Naples to American style pizza and Sicilian deep dish

Lobster and other seafood, locally grown we have the cranberry, my town was the first to grow them way back when to fight scurvy.
