What did they do when they got to hang out with all the boys? Did they wear their uniforms or take a nude swim like in the 1950s?

The cop and the leatherman were straight, the rest were gay.I think I read somewhere that only one of the Village People was actually gay. I don't suppose the others hung out with the boys much.
Based on my own experience staying at the New York central Y as a student...probably not much. The place was quiet and dull as a tomb.

Isn’t 50 a little late to learn to swim? Better late than never I guess. In the 70s I learned how to swim at the YMCA
They also had a candy machine that I liked very much. By the end of my lessons I swam like an Orca.
Just don't visit the candy machine too often, or else one will look like an orca! They also had a candy machine that I liked very much. By the end of my lessons I swam like an Orca.
Sort of surprised--I thought they were everywhere!I don’t think we have any YMCAs around here.
And I've heard they were outright banned at some YMCAs.I'm old enough to remember when swim suits were optional at the YMCA. Wish it was still the case.
Sorry. Can't hear you. My chocolate covered Rice Krispies treat is going snap crackle pop.Just don't visit the candy machine too often, or else one will look like an orca!
The West side Y near Central Park was the one we stayed at on our big trip to NYC in our second year at Uni.Where was the "central" Y? I never stayed at any of the Ys in Manhattan because I live here, but I worked out at three of them and had quite good times there, very much including with people who were staying at the West Side Y near Central Park. (One of the most beautiful guys I ever had was an actor who ended up working for the UN in Geneva and was staying at the West Side Y.)
