Who took it?

What was it used for?

It's really odd. I assume men's swimming was closed to women and children - for a reason. Where has this photo appeared since then? Did the men know that it would be published, or where it would be published?

And, at this point in time, who has the permission of each of these men to post this photo on line? Where is the documentation?

Seems pretty fucking creepy, to me, to be passing around a photo of horribly naive and/or unsuspecting/trusting naked men, who are probably all dead by now, on the internet.

At the time this would have been a totally normal scene. The YMCA was male only, and bathing suits were banned at that time. Suits at that time were wool, and fibers clogged the pool filters. It also allowed the staff to check for any lesions suggestive of STD. Attitudes about male nude swimming were much different then compared to today. It was not seen as something sexual. Back then high school boys swim teams were often nude, even during competitions, when there were female classmates and family attending. When I was a kid, in the 60's, plenty of kids and adults swam nude at the Y. I usually wore a suit, but swam naked on occasion. If someone took a picture of us nude it the pool I wouldn't have objected. It was just a normal thing for guys at that time.
 
It is a shame that we now only see nakedness in North American athletics as being sexual.

There are still lots of photos that were taken at swim meet competitions where the guys were naked and the girls have suits on....

Seriously, I think you are just spinning your wheels posting this argument on a gay porn site.

I'm sure this conversation would look much different on a more 'general public' type website.

Here's a web site that I ran into several years ago, and I'd advise you to check it out with caution. It's something called "Gymnos Aquatic Saints," with the claim that it is for "straight Christian men who love to skinny dip." The guy claims that only straight men should skinny dip in nonsexual ways (no women allowed!). It's full of homophobic and religious right crap, and he advocates fathers and sons skinny dipping together (he could also use an editor). Nonetheless, the site has ironically been the target of being accused of homosexuality. Here's the link, if you can manage to peruse the site without getting disgusted.

When I lived in the city, the apartment building had a pool on the rooftop level and there were many nights when a couple of us would go for a naked swim and then some sauna fun.
