Who said anything about "macho?" I said that he has internalized homophobia. Troubled, yes. Also, it has nothing to do with NYC.
 
I recommend the book "Preventing Violence" by James Gilligan (renowned Massachusetts prison psychiatrist.) He illustrates extremely well the connection between misogynistic and macho attitudes, violence, and internalized homophobia. They're very much linked.

His overall premise is basically that socio-economic and mental ills should be treated as such: dysfunction and sickness in society that requires healing, not as opportunities for judgement and punishment (and profit from said judgment and punishment), which is only counter-productive.

He's definitely getting at that in the book. He shows direct correlation between poverty/lack of support and all manner of social ills. And the way that policies deepening the problems are made with full knowledge. For example, it was thoroughly shown that recidivism (re-offending) took a major drop when prisons provided educational/enrichment/social programs for prisoners. So, how did policy makers respond to this success? By shutting down the programs.

A country comparison he did was looking at how single parents in places with a social safety net don't experience the shame and major struggles that U.S. single parents do.

Those attacking your post ignore a) the very prevalent fantasy among gays, likely persistent due to being surrounded by a sea of straights compared to the tiny number of gay men at large, b) the wildly successful gay porn that vivifies this scenario BECAUSE it has a vast market, and c) the appeal of taboo that makes transient sex tantalizing, all the more if it flaunts convention, or in this case, crosses boundaries.

I may have not be any prolific interloper sexually, but it's not like I haven't be paying attention for the last 40 years to what is out there.

Now, back to topic, which WAS positive, about things that are pluses in a guy.

Don't know about his stance on women, but he's mentioned a few times that he abhors violence, be it fictional or in real life (he's anti-gun, if I recall). P sure anyone who identifies as "macho" would dismiss him as a "wuss" rather than consider him a fellow "macho."

As for the whole masc gays having internalized homophobia, well yeah, a lot of them like to hate on the femme gays and vice versa. Personally, I don't ally myself with either faction, and consider their cute little civil war a fine example of dumbassery.
