I hope it's not like last time when he got all hissy and changed from "HardUp" to "NotHardUp".

Anyway I've been missing his high moral tone and appreciation of nuance. And his patriotism (I know patriotism's a dirty word now but he's patriotic).

patriotism just means hating people you never met cuz they live on another side of an imaginary line, and taking pride in accomplishments you had no part of. put like that, I understand why it appeals to so many Americans.

What a sadly cynical and inaccurate redefinition of patriotism. It is correctly defined as love of one's country. Only a dull thinker or a propagandist could limit it to militarism or imperial thinking. And suggesting that group identity is inherently bad is equally errant. Tell that same churlish rebuff to the fans of Hiphop, or County/Western, or Waltzes. People take great pride in their culture yet did not create it. Go ahead. I dare you to shush a bunch of music fans who revel in their chosen genre and are proud of being a part of it. Utter hypocrisy. But I guess such a seditious attempt was appropriately posted on May Day.

A man can be quite proud of his country's contributions to art, agriculture, aeronautics, medicine, government, education, philosophy, medicine, music, of any number of contributions. He may be proud of his national park system, or charitable organizations or botanical or conservation societies. He might simply be proud of the jerked chicken recipes.

None of those require despising another country's people, cuisine, science, or existence. That is a fabrication of those who just basically want to shit all over the history and status quo, a type of scorched earth policy of disparagement. It's not enough that the political or military or other failures and mistakes of a country count against it. The propagandist must leave no virtue left anywhere. Tres obvious.

The photo is of Billy Zane, the face I used as my avatar when I was Hard-up1 when I joined JUB. His family is Greek. He was then famous for his starring role in Dead Calm. Looking at his face sans hair, it is interesting how he resembles Egyptians and others, including ancient Egyptians. I guess that's not so shocking. The Greeks ruled Egypt for hundreds of years just before the Romans, so maybe their genes were mixed in long before, back in the time of the Old Kingdom or before.

Pat's pic is much more recent, but I think a handsome face is a handsome face, bald or not. I used to have his face cropped close for that reason, it forced you to see the face. Here is a side-by-side pic of Zane young and after he shaved his head:
