We hear all the time that someone straight became gay but seldom someone gay became straight.
What is your opinion?

Well, I was straight once, and so was my ex. So for me I'd have to say I hear more of the former.

My guess is that if one did some scientific research into your question, that the statistics would show more straights turning homosexual then the other way around.

I believe there are more causal effects at "p;ay" in the dominant situation.

The interesting question to find out, is whether they are truly happy they have made that decision i. e. who is and who is not?

Another interesting question(s) might be what effect this has had on their lives after having made the said decision. i. e. family, friends, job, partners, etc.

i have no scientific data myself to back up what I have posted as I am a mere village idiot, but my education and research in the past leads me to offer these conclusions at this time !oops! - please feel free to correct me.

I've always been gay. I used to be married to a woman when I was younger, but that didn't make me straight.

It depends on the question's context. Straight and gay as in biological feelings or lifestyle?

My impression with the question is that more straight guys become gay. The reason being, is after several years of pretending to be straight, they accept their sexuality, divorce/break-up with their women, and move on. Its a very hard, emotional re-adjustment as they break out of the social structures that have held them in bondage from recognizing their own sexuality. Some young men grow up only knowing to get married and have kids, without even conceiving its realities.

Its more rare for a gay man to become straight. That situation occurs more with self-fear of one's immortality, moral conviction and pressure from church and family. Furthermore, some gay men just get tired of the sub-culture lifestyle of sex and drugs, and feel like heterosexuality is the only alternative to a stable life and family.

sorry, you are what you are from birth.

physical surroundings and social imput may cloud your activities but from birth imo you are gay or straight or ambivalent or take any thing that comes

i further think that some people [more closets] try to fit into the 'norm' and may spend their entire lives living a lie while others finally get the opportunity handed them to quit living a lie. bi's have it best again, imo.

and its what works for me so it must be whats right for me.

neither. You can't change your sexuality.

OranTran is right I think. How you percieve yourself may be subject to change, but a person cannot change their sexuality. I know, I tried that once (not through surgery btw).

I have no doubt that many guys enjoy sex with guys and girls. There seems to be a degree of homosexuality.... along the lines of the old Kinsey scale. I sincerely believe that guys that are high on that scale (learning to the totally gay category) are fooling themselves if they think they can change themselves to a straight guy. They can be outwardly straight, date a girl or marry. One cannot change their basic nature though.

Its not that we "change our sexuality" but in the label or openess of our sexuality. My first relationship was with a women. I fell in love with her and married her. I considered myself "straight". Sure underneath it all I felt more attracted to guys but I was married. I have since gotten a divorce and consider my self completely gay. I changed my "label" but at one time I was straight and thought I would never be openly gay. So how do you explain that??
I do feel that we tend to be a certain sexuality from birth but I do not think it is impossible to change ones sexuality. I think its more common to do that then people are willing to believe. Most gay guy's need to believe that they are who they are from birth or it freaks em' out. We need to understand why we are different. Why we are in the minority concerning our sexuality. I have spent many nights crying and confused because of it. Especially since I was raised a strick christian. It comforts me to believe that I've been gay since birth....but sometimes I wonder. No offense to anyone here...just my thoughts. (*8*)

Nope. If you want labels, I think there are more bisexuals than anything else. You can try to pretend to be one or the other, but you can't change what's inside of you. :)

I think you hit the nail on the head.

As OranTaran said, you can't change your biological feelings. But you can change your lifestyle. I did and an surprised to see so many regulars in this thread who used to be married! I had no idea. I don't feel so alone anymore.

OranTaran, you should post more. I like the way you think.
