What Has Been The Scariest Thing That's Ever Happened To You?

Being attacked by a dog as a child, one of my friends being in a fight, some drunk guys forcing open the train door while its moving with a few people on the train just being like .. what the fuck.

I was chased by a bull during a visit to Prince Edward Island.

Almost choking to death when I was a kid.

The classic demon sitting on your chest crushing you in your sleep thing. Scared the fuck out of me. I slept with the lights on and a cross around my neck for the next YEAR.

When I was 9 or so, my father and I were fishing at a stocked pond. I wandered away to look for frogs and snakes and I happened across this man fishing. I was completely out of eyesight (maybe even hearing) of my dad. The guy seemed nice, but my well-developed (god bless the 80s “stranger danger” commercials) warning system started going off. I kept my distance. He told me there were probably some big toads under a small wooden bridge a couple feet away from him. I’d have had to turn my back to him to look under. I didn’t move and finally he dropped all pretence and asked if I wanted some fish. He said he had too many to bring home. All I’d have to do was follow him back to his car…

That’s when I ran back to my dad. Never saw him again.

I told my dad and he just said I should stay near him.

To this day that pisses me off a little. If it were me, I’d have followed my kid back to the guy and said, “sure, I’ll take a fish. Let’s go back to your car right now!” and if there were no fish at his car...

had a rather terrifying flight back from london in a 767 where the plane lost an engine. had to jettison fuel and make a semi-emergency landing in halifax. you've never seen so many people suddenly "finding faith" in your life. also, i'm fairly certain the plane ran out of alcohol.

When I was around 11 I had a neighborhood paper route. Back then the paper boys had to go to their customers' houses and collect payment for the newspaper. It was November and got dark early. I had to go in the early evenings after people got home from work. I went to this one house about 6:00pm. I rang the doorbell and this woman opened the door with a pistol pointed at me. She asked me what the hell I wanted. My heart was in my throat. I was so scared that I could barely speak. I told her that I was there to collect for the newspaper. She told me that her husband had already paid it. I knew he hadn't but quickly said, "ok", and I got out of there. My Mom made me drop the route.....which was good. I was a little bit young for it anyway.

There are a couple of things that really scared the hell out of me.

I was shot at by a madman and hit 3 times in the abdomen. It happened so fast I didn't have time to be scared right away. It was after things settled down that I got really scared.

I was a stay at home dad at the time. My son was in second grade and was in school. I left the house to run some errands. Being new to Atlanta I didn't know how bad the traffic could get or any alternate routes. I got stuck in traffic big time. He took the bus home as usual but I wasn't home and the doors were locked. Meanwhile I'm in a panic trying to get home. I arrived home 2 hours late and he wasn't anywhere to be found. I was terrified. I went to a couple of neighbors homes and nobody was home. The third house I went to finally someone answered the door. A very nice women said "oh, you must be dad". I said "please tell me he's here." She said "he knocked on my door and said he couldn't get in the house and didn't know where you were. I was just getting ready to call the police." My son came to the door and I just started crying. I gave him the biggest hug EVER. I explained to both of them what happened and that it would NEVER happen again. The next day I bought her some flowers and thanked her for looking after my child. I felt so bad for putting them through that. Just talking about it makes me cry all over again.

You are a fantastic Dad and im glad everything from your son finding that house to the person in that house being a good person all worked out (*8*)(*8*)

Finding red backs sharing my space while I was taking a crap in a dunnie...

I googled them

a red back is a spider (australian origin)

a dunnie is an outside/external toilet (australian origin)

I googled them (!)

My scariest thing was also a panic attack. Very frightening as the other poster said. Feels like a heart attack and you think you are gonna die. I was taken to the hospital, my blood pressure was 205/110. You have to learn to control what you think to get over it.

WHY did I HAVE to google "red backs"?! WHY?! (arachnophobe speaking... great, I'm wearing shorts, and now I feel imaginary spiders crawling up my shins... Oddly enough, the imaginary spiders always leave the calfs alone...)

Windsors YOU EVIL HELLHOUND!! xD

It wasn't bad enough that I found the small images on google, I found this HUMUNGOUS monster on my screen while scrolling up from my post. (I must've begun writing it before you posted the monster-I-won't-mention and finished afterwards... How I took 12 minutes to write 2 lines, I'll never know...)

That was possibly the scariest thing that ever happened to me, thank you very much xD
I reckon my senior neighbors didn't like my screaming like a 12 year old girl at 11pm... :X

When I was about 12 I was at a local (smallish) lake with a couple of friends. Some kid had a canoe. I hassled him for a go., got about 25 feet out and promptly capsized and couldn't recover or get out of the canoe. Fortunately, the guy whose canoe it was saw that I was in deep shit and dived in to save me. Scared the crap out of me.

A couple of years ago I had a nasty chest infection and collapsed during a coughing fit. I fell onto a small table which had a glass on it and landed in a heap on the floor. I woke up with broken glass everywhere and blood streaming from my nose. No idea how long I had been unconscious (turns out is was just a few seconds). I phoned a friend to come and take me to hospital to be checked over and started crying uncontrollably on the phone. Pure fear-induced adrenaline rush.

The older I get the more nervous I'm becoming (which sucks)

Watching the original The Omen when I was 10---I couldn't sleep for four days in a row. Dunno why it scared the shit out of me when Freddy failed to produce the same effect.
