What have you learnt today?

I wasn't talking about that... I was talking about whole nations, not families. My parents did their best by emigrating from Southern Spain to Barcelona, and that was quite something, for them, and even for me even now.

What have you learnt today?

....that Belamo is a non-Catalonian immigrant!

What region of Spain did Mama Belamo and Papa Belamo come from?

Perhaps Andalusia? P.S. Which language did you learn first - Spanish or Catalan? Or both together?

I was born here from Andalusian parents, and started learning Catalan at school at six.

Satisfied?

That ..discrimination towards asian male within western perspective might be caused by "jealousy"

He is the first Asian American as well as the first Japanese American movie star and the first Asian-American Leading Man. His "broodingly handsome"[2] good looks and typecasting as a sinister villain with sexual dominance made him a heartthrob among American women, and the first male sex symbol of Hollywood, several years in advance of Rudolph Valentino.[3][4] During those early years, Hayakawa was as well known and as popular as Charlie Chaplin and Douglas Fairbanks, although today his name is largely unknown to the public.[5][6]

His popularity, sex appeal, and extravagant lifestyle (e.g., his wild parties and his gold-plated Pierce-Arrow) may have fed tension within segments of American society and led to discriminatory stereotypes and the desexualization of Asian men in American productions, something that continues to today in Modern Hollywood,[4][7][8] as exemplified by the controversial character of I.Y. Yunioshi in Breakfast At Tiffany's. Hayakawa refused to adopt the negative stereotypes.

It doesn't even go as far as jealousy because, like homosexuals until a few decades, they are simply ignored like the whole of Asia is ignored.
Even now that the East seems to be beating the West at their own game, the West can still royally pass on making sense, let alone assimilating, even the minimal relevant part of Asian civilizations, because the West still keeps the power to change the rules they asked Asia to play with, by simply breaking them.
Part of those hypocritical rules involve the sense of inferiority and barbarism deriving from the atrocities of the XXth century (China, Japan, Cambodia, Indonesia...), from which all those countries (to a degree equaled only by Germany in the West) are deemed to make up to the rest of the world.

So, like in everyday's life with your own neighbour, it is all about self-sufficient ignorance... jealousy may be more on the Asian side, out of more or less rightful resentment, waiting for tables to turn...

I feel so dumb that it never dawned on me before that El Greco was gay. I guess I've always been too gay myself to notice.

What you say are true, we can't change history. Although not as bad like those in African countries but please exclude Japanese and Chinese and even Korean.. they're as smart, tough and violent as European countries- atrocities and inferiority could happen in any type of era/ culture Bethlam, dont be a smug or ..are you just reenact that ancient smug persona right now? ^^

However, that's not a subject I brought when I posted about Sessue here..
What I want to highlighting that many of them actually have "MORE" potential to bring..if they aren't segregated/ discriminated with ancient treatment..that they could rise further if they born in different era!
And It's easy to grab "jealousy" from Sessue wiki article- it's not that difficult, totally obvious.
I thought there weren't minority actors play in silver screen (zero) I just LEARNT that they're Sessue,Dorothy, Anna May Wong are among the first to become pioneers
that's why I posted here...maybe I shouldn't since you gonna come with shades..^^

Even now that the ...because the West still keeps the power to change the rules they asked Asia to play with, by simply breaking them.
I hope y'all still treating North Korea like that.

Im not so sure of jealousy in that term. maybe for those asians who live in Western countries like me but not me..hell no, you know me. ^^ Jealousy could arise (*depending on a type of person) to some minority asians in Europe, America or Australia. They might be "jealous" because they're not living within their ally..therefore insecurity could arise and no wonder. However, I dont think jealousy is prevalent in their home countries since Asian people are preoccupied with themselves..like you say "Self sufficient ignorance."
So don't generalize, and FYI S.E Asians are far from western influence (culturally speaking)- except Bali :dead: but the most Metropolitan asian countries of course can't denying western influence- as you seen in China, Japan, Taiwan and S.Korea..However when they're getting western exposure, I notice they're not sulking in jealousy..instead they just snatch that blond wig, french doll costume, blue lens and make all of that their own.
