Over last week-end the man with 3 computers had his main one get really really sick. Turns out his back up

was even sicker and 'oh shit' (his 3rd one) was all but dead. A rush to the E/R and they said maybe ok by

Wednesday. Well, he lives in a remote hamlet and pony express is sporadic so, the parts to heal may take

until Saturday to get through....the weather isn't helping..

Bear with noble companions "DG" will survive.

That's a bit distasteful after what happened to Gabby Giffords.

Somebody, I forget who it was in here, claimed two or three years ago that he is very anonymous on here, because he is in the U. S. Congress. Of course no way to know at all whether that is or was true.

At Mercy????

Oh, how thrilling! I wonder whether he would be on the totally hot-looking side, on the creepy hot-looking side or the totally creepy side.

No Mikey, not Sutter or even Kaiser either.

He took them to a special hospital called Lytespeed Computers or

something equally inane. Remember, he is in rural NW New Yak.

Gaming is a full time hobby. I played some games today and 3-4 hours throughout the game. I have barely touch the tip of the whole game.

You probably have the erstwhile LAIKA in mind.
WAS it??? I was thinking it was somebody else. But I find myself having a glimmer of deja vu on your comment - that maybe indeed it was him. (Otherwise, I certainly remember "who" he was, of course, regarding his political leanings and such. I definitely tended to agree with him rarely, if ever.)

No, I was thinking that it was somebody who was somewhat less "visible" - though it was also true that if somebody didn't frequent C E & P in 2010, they probably didn't see him around.

Certainly the time frame fits in well with what I think I remember.

I guess what gives me some doubt about it being Laika, is that I think the thread was something like "How anonymous are you on JUB" or some such thing - a Hot Topics type of thread where, as I mention, was a region outside of his regular stomping grounds here.

I learnt that I shouldn't expect clear precise text from my boss or his partner, they are testing to see if I can decipher what they text me. :)

I learnt that dressing like a million $$ gets you treated like royalty--quite literally.

I went to a company function tonight. I chose a four-square black wool suit, with a paprika shirt, and a silk tie that had black stripes and paprika-colored squares. I topped it off with a black felt fedora.

I got treated like royalty.

Gentlemen, you really ought to ditch your "appropriately faded" jeans, and start dressing like a gentleman. People will treat you as a completely different individual.

Only in America could someone wearing a fedora be "treated like royalty".
A "paprika shirt"? "Squares", "paprika-colored"... in a tie? You mean THIS color??!!!
"Dressed like a gentleman"... only in America :##:

^Hmm.

Wikipedia disagrees with you.

I actually wore a trilby. I only used the word "fedora" because I presumed people would have more readily recognized the word.

Anyway, Wikipedia says that "A trilby hat (commonly called a trilby) is a narrow-brimmed fedora. The trilby was once viewed as the rich man's favored hat; it is sometimes called the "brown trilby" in England"

If a Trilby looks good enough to wear to Ascot, then I feel comfortable enough to wear it to an important company function, belamo.

My dear child, I see that your manners have not improved very much during the lengthy time I had you on "ignore". I see that it's time to spank you, and send you back to the Ignoratorium without supper.

If you say you wore a fedora how do you expect me or anyone else to know what you actually wore.
"Wikipedia disagrees with me"? YOU disagree with yourself.
In any case:

1. trilby is as loosely applied and misapplied as fedora, borsalino or any other sort of hat outside the popular bastardized family of the fedos. Unless you give me the exact size and proportions of the hat, you may look as silly and call it what you want. Allow to doubt your luck to find or ability or interest to customize the hat that you can not easily find anywhere in the world... even with the net at our feet.

2. Riches and tastes of the past are used as easily as standards for laughability and contempt as, in that post of yours, as a justification for whatever one happens you please. And it does not say much of YOUR OWN sense of style to appeal to hearsays... you know that some of today's standards of gentlemanlike dressing were set by the Duke of Windsor at a time when those proposals were looked down as totally ridiculous and "ungentlemanlike".

3. Ascot. The British taste... I'd give them a CERTAIN creidit for "good" taste in tailoring in certain VERY PARTICULAR cases, and by tailoring meaning just the cut, not so much in the choice of fabrics.

4. When children grow old and add to the mass of old authorized childish whims set as a general standard for "good society", they feel entitled to pontificate their ignorance to their own reflection in what opposes their spoilt brat prejudices.

You were looking over the shoulder to people who do not dress, according to you, like "a gentleman", by not wearing paprika and silly hats. The world of gentlemen is over, as so is their sense for style. There are, of course, exceptions who are but sad remains or, rather, flashes lost in a pan of vulgarity (pontificating vulgarity): a gentleman is always dress like a gentleman in different styles for different occasions at different times of the day, and costuming for a gathering is not "dressing like a gentleman", it is just travestying... it is the common way of the modern Western world, and you can find more style, even and even MAINLY in Western clothing, by people from developing countries, with a truer sense of style, and who are not simply the same social equivalent of the typical Angloyokel with a different ethnicity in a different language.

Your sense of style is as calcified, and on a wrong base to make it worse, as the rest of your profile.

By the way, the tie had approximately a 90% black content. The paprika squares were small and subtle, and served to tie the coat with the shirt.

Right, "small and subtle" as lice.

And finally, somebody needs to teach that boy some manners.

Or is "the teaching of fools folly"?

Somebody needs to get more sense in his head and at his fingertips before aspiring to "teach" anyone anything.
Sense and rightness do not come automatically with wrinkles and sagging.
