He also said I learned that very often the most intolerant and narrow-minded people are the ones who congratulate themselves on their tolerance and open-mindedness.
But that's probably not applicable to this particular thread

Because tolerance and open-mindedness are moral concepts (even if they pretend it is different by calling them ethical, it's exactly the same thing) morality is about opinion, of themselves and the other people, not actually about the arguments that may lead to the moral judgment.

So people just say they are good people, and those who, for whatever reason, they consider out of their group, are bad, and that good and bad, clothing with labels such as tolerance and what not, are merely a feeling of security and conviction of their own self-esteem, not about what acts or arguments may actually support it.

Although I still need winter bedclothes, last night has been the first tropical night of the year in the BCN area.

Mark Kermode and I think the same about 'Fading Gigolo' :)

That is EXACTLY how Hollywood movies and American TV shows in general work. And about the sort of people who get paid by the thousands for company, sex or no sex included... those people are really so clueless, and not just misguided by their preconception of what is being a gigolo, what wealthier people pay or do not pay for, and by the idea they have of Turturro, Clooney and Ford.

You mean "almost" because it has a longer history than other institutions and ideas to support that claim for biggest fraud ever.

Probably most of my friends and I were latchkey kids growing up, and I would have to imagine it's only more common today, as it's very rare for mothers to not have to work now.

You'd never heard the term before?
buzz!! (*8*)

Nope, and learned it from the title of a German Krimi that I bought today.

And, actually, I still haven't heard it

I remember when I was young that some people still thought of it as "sad" or a "sad change" or something, but even back then that was regarded as kind of out of touch with the times. A mom who did little but stay at home and clean and take care of the kids when they got home was seen as a bit quaint or old-fashioned. Definitely a luxury not every family could afford.

Today I'm sure it must seem even moreso.

I also remember people seeming to think that just "being" latchkey kids would mean more kids would get into bad habits, behave worse, go wild, or whatever else. That was bunk too. The good kids were good and the bad kids were bad. It never seemed to matter all that much how early or late their parents got home from work.
