If they can do that, why can't they get a better idea where that missing jet went down months ago?

Because the information is about the flight plan, not about what actually happens when the plane flies out of the plan, which is what happened in the case you mention

So... in the link posted in #6922, they can track lightning strikes, but they can't track actual jets?

Lightning strikes are not tracked, they track you down   and, like with planes, what you track is the landing or crash of it...
Does that #6922 allow you, like in the case of planes, say: oh, there is a lightning strike due that rotten belamo's head the evening of the day after tomorrow mwahahahaha..?

I'd guess that millions of lightning strikes go un-noticed, or un-found yearly. In all my years, I don't think I've ever seen a spot where I could definitively say that there was indeed a lightning strike in some random location - barring the random tree/building.

That is because fulminated ants leave no trace
However, lightning DOES leave a trace...

US automakers are still whining to the government that they can't possibly survive if they have to meet pollution and performance standards

that were being met by the Japanese years ago

I have learnt that stamps are 49 cents now (regular first class mail). Actually, a bargain by world standards. Yeah yeah I can hear the choruses of "who uses stamps anymore?" Well, I needed to (no, I won't disclose why so don't ask).

BTW....also learned that UPS will start charging by SIZE of package. This is weird because I always thought weight was what counted...

Just in case someone was thinking about it, the Catholic are too greedy and sneaky, and they want it all...
