What if a friend jokes about wearing a tiara?

Your friend opines that 2011 is the year of big, hot, burly gay men wearing tiaras. How do you respo

Considering plastic tiaras are a dime a dozen and passed around by all kinds of places during a New Year's celebration, I wouldn't think anything of it.

Now, if the tiaras in question had rhinestones and were owned by said burly men, then my response to him would be, "Happy New Year, Princess Sugarbaker."

I'm guessing your response was, "you big homo."

I respond the same way that I do in your threads...

Like this...

Oh, don't give me that. I'm not confused.

You've been "smoochin'" with everyone! :grrr:

What?

You didn't think I know?

I know.

You've been with Snuffy, Al, Leo, Little Moe with the gimpy leg....

Let's see, who else...

Cheeks, Bony Bob, Cliff.

I could go on forever, baby. :p

You got me all wrong!

Moe, you're the only duck in my pond... Well you and that other guy...

Moe you crazy bitch. You been watching home alone again?

This is very disturbing. Big burly gay men wearing tiaras? Disturbing and nauseating. I'm sorry it's just unnatural. I can't accept it. There's a limit to things.

I mean, where are their fucking sceptres? Or fairy wands? Jesus Christ! At least have your fairy wands with your tiaras!

How do you respond?

"Oh ok."

Bonus points: how do you think I respond?

Something about your own agenda.
It's so funny that people think I have any other agenda than to make gay guys happy with themselves.
P.S. That's not how I responded.

does it warrant any kind of response in the first place?

you wore a tiara on new year's eve. good for you, I don't give a fuck?
With friends like you...

Is this some sort of test for early dementia?
It's a test for "Do you have a sense of humor?" vs. "Are you afraid of appearing fem?" The usuals posted their usual replies. No surprise there. I can't think of any of my real-world friends posting anything other than a funny or sexy retort. But look at the responses here. Crazy, just crazy. Guys here just are not comfortable with themselves. And that'd be fine, if they didn't advertise it all over the place, as if it's the right thing to do.

Don't get me wrong--there is no one right reply (I always provide "Other" as an option). But guys who change the topic or get uncomfortable--well, that says more about them than it does their friend. And yet they keep posting here almost as if to intimidate other JUBbers, to prove their masculinity. (Yes, I fully expect to get mauled for that statement.)

aw, hell! who cares! have some fun! lighten up!

I'd just laugh and go with it.
Yay! I'm right there with you, brother!

I think that you thinking that you're going to stir up some drama with these threads is always more provocative than the subject itself.
Just trying to get people to think. If it stirs up drama, so be it.

So far, I'm the only one who voted for what I actually responded to my friend (it was a posting on Facebook, actually, so all my FB buddies here saw or could see my real reply).

would give an "uhmm ok" response, the type you give when you're wondering 'why the hell are you telling me this'
He and his bf and super cute. They'd look fab in a tiara! :D

I'd grab my tiara and challenge them to a duel of the diamonds.

I would hope you'd do the same.
My favorite answer so far!

Lube, I can picture you and your bf wearing tiaras while shovelling snow if for no other reason than to teach your neighbors about diversity.

I am in favor of big, burly gay men wearing tiaras. How we would know they are gay otherwise?
Hey, that is a great way to teach the neighbors. Maybe we'd do it nude!?!

I've worn a girl's high shoes in a disco just for fun, probably tiaras are more comfortable... Not that I'm hot, big or burly.
Oh, but you are, Sweetie! (*8*)

I wouldn't respond. It doesn't seem like an interesting conversation topic, particularly not with a random stranger.

On second thought, if it were a certain favorite JUBber of mine named Sam who was wearing said tiara, which wouldn't be surprising, it'd be totally hot. :p
It's not a random stranger. He's my friend. To your average person seeing him, a tiara would look so out of character. But to know him, you'd know it's not. :)

Why is it that, in the Coming Out forum, whenever someone's "straight" friend does something stereotypically gay (like spooning, cuddling, hugging, or kissing their male friends), guys here continue to pretend their friend is straight but "comfortable with his sexuality"? And, yet, when do we ever talk about a gay guy being "comfortable with his sexuality"? Almost never.

---

P.S.--My response to the original question posted in this thread was "That's hot!"

Because it is.

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd, I get the bonus points! Agenda Agenda :gogirl:!

Just because we don't want to wear tiaras and start out the year looking like total cunts doesn't make us gays who are uncomfortable with our sexuality.

I am very comfortable with my sexuality, I love being who I am and I do all of that without having a single stereotype you want us to all have.

I never said you had to wear a tiara--where did that come from?

And if you claim you don't have a single stereotype, well that just shows how uncomfortable with your sexuality you really are. :(

"JIMMY!,.....COME HERE FOR A SEC"

"Um, This is the one I was telling you about..."

*rubs Jims ass as he leans over to look at screen*

Did you stop telling us about putting your rock band CDs in the player to show your machismo?

:) Stereotypes you want us to have.

:) Stereotypes you want us to have.
No, because everyone is different.

Everyone's stereotypical attributes are unique. Some have more, some have less.

How do you know how others perceive you? You don't.

It's funny how people accuse me of being black and white, but quite the reverse is true. Whenever I say everyone has some stereotypical attributes, people think I'm saying that every gay guy wears a tiara and sequins every day.

Sheesh.

Oh Lube, you are quite the mystery. You make these threads, ask for people's opinions, and then tell everyone that their opinions are incorrect and demonstrate some form of internalized homophobia, which more often than not is entirely invalid and based only on preconceived notions that every gay man is the same. You act as if you're some sort of expert on male homosexuality, as if you have years of experience. And when people call you on it, like almost every day, you wonder why. It's odd and irritating to say the least. Does this never get old?

It's so funny that people think I have any other agenda than to make gay guys happy with themselves.

But you still don't see that you're having the opposite reaction. You are terrorising young people with your scare tactics. I wish you would stop and let them find happiness by themselves.

Life is hard enough for people are afraid to or (for reasons of their own) cannot come out of the closet without you showing them who horrific it is out here. You are NOT helping them.

I keep seeing you as someone like Fred Phelps or any other bombastic evangelist: You Will Be Happy, For I Have Spoken!!

You spent most of your life in a closet. It took most of your life for you to get up the guts to come out. That does not make you an authority on the subject. I truly wish you'd stop acting as if you had a bunch of letters after your name.

GSDX and Esquire,

You know, I might believe what you guys say, but the contrast between some outspoken JUB posters (like yourselves and a couple others here) and my real-world friends (and that includes real-world JUBbers I've met) is night and day.

Night and day.

I come to JUB and I get depressed. Seriously.

There is so much negativity. So much fake machismo. Soooooo much insecurity. It gets depressing.

But out on FaceBook or at the party I was at last night: it's FUN TO BE GAY! People are so relaxed with themselves! They can mock themselves and they can take themselves seriously.

Here, all I see is "I'm not like that" or "I'm not like them". "That's too fem for me." "I don't do gay things." "I'm not stereotypically gay." It's sickening, really.

You know, let me tell you something.

I'm a very different man than I was 5 years ago, when I was this terrified shadow of a man. I came on JUB and mostly listened. Oh, sure, I contributed a few things (some things I'm not so proud of contributing, other things I am).

But I learned a lot from JUB (and subsequently from real-world gay friends).

Have you grown a lot in the past few years? Are you contributing in ways you never did before? Or are you spewing the same crap you've been spewing for the past few years?

A know-it-all never changes, because he thinks he knows it all.

Am I the know-it-all, or are you?
