Well, since Islam acknowledges Jesus as a Saint, and multiple written sources speak of him (including roman sources), I believe he existed. Nobody goes on and makes up a fairytale that determines the events of the world for the next 2000 years.
Plus the Catholic Church hid a lot of sources, because they wanted to remain in control. Control knowledge and you have power over the limits of human thinking.

I understand your doubts as well, because if he didn't exist it would explain why there is no body at all. Yes, very convenient, but millions of bodies were lost over the centuries.

Your source - aCatholic encyclopedia -- established only that Pilate killed an insurrectionist. It makes no reference to fantastical stories. It does comment that the Jews were a superstitious bunch.

Since there are a lot of threads about Jesus lately, I wonder, what do you guys think would have happened, if Jesus stood alive? Would he have been made king?

Any ideas and input is welcome.

He would be treated the same as any other leaders in history.
Would be killed or dying of illnesses ...
