What is it with gay men growing beards?

Have any of you noticed this new trend among gay men?

At my college, almost all of the gay guys are growing beards. I'm even noticing it among gay guys in porn too.

While goatees on some guys may look hot, I am not a fan of the "lumberjack" looking beard. I think it's funny that gay guys are suddenly trying to grow beards. What's even more hillarious is when these bearded gay guys open their mouth, they still speak with a lisp or a high-pitched voice.

I'm like, gurl, who are you trying to kid? Just because you grow a beard does not make you more "manly." It's like they're trying to make their facial hair compensate for their lack of masculinity.

I personally like clean-cut, cleanly shaven men......

"new trend"? Gays have had beards since forever. Just like all men. But yes, more beards are in fact to be seen lately. Why? Because they are a trend now.

I don't think they are trying to be manly. They are just letting their faces perform normal functions like growing facial hair. If you allowed your brain to perform its normal functions, you will understand that too.

I grew a beard because I like how it looks, I like how people respond to me, and because it's easier than shaving every day. I can't speak for everyone else, but beards do feel more "natural" to a lot of people. I have noticed a surge in beards among the hip gays, but I find beards a lot more palatable than Palestinian scarves or Von Dutch trucker hats, so I welcome the trend.

So we're talking about subjective tastes rather than the objectivism that infests the original post? In that instance: I like tall, broad, hairy men with long, long, well kept hair and quite dense beards. Funny how many I've met over the years, and I'm about the same age as you.

Beards are just better. Why wouldn't you grow one, if given the choice? Mine isn't even impressive and I let it grow anyway...

Also, shaving is a horrible, horrible practice that should never be imposed on another human being. Trimming now and then > shaving every day.

I have no idea what is going on with guys in general about facial hair. Seems like most of the guys on television has at lease a five o'clock shadow. I don't understand it myself.

I think it's just a matter of taste and preference...kind of like shaving your head or not shaving your head. What surprises me is gays are generally so hung up on age, yet some would grow beards. It is a fact (ask any professional stylist or personal groomer) that facial hair makes a guy look OLDER...which seems to contradict the general gay obsession with youth.
