What is new on the Gay Marriage front?

I called Utah county and it is not issuing licenses. When I inquired further about the legal implications, the clerk tried to transfer me to the county attorney.

I'm not stupid, but I did expect some counties to try and weasel their way out of Shelby's ruling... Perhaps if enough people call as I did and issue vague legal threats they will open up.

The phone number is one this page: http://www.utahcounty.gov/Dept/clerkaud/index.asp

Yes Opinterph I linked it this time

OMG

Get in a hurry, don't do it right, and the court tells you to try again. The question is... did they rush it, or are they so convicted of their righteousness that they were sloppy?

The main issue seems to be that the state jumped the gun on trying an appeals stay, but the order also states that their claim was insufficient in and of itself.

From ABC News:

About 125 gay couples obtained marriage licenses Friday in Salt Lake City, and Clerk Sherrie Swensen said her office issued a similar number Monday morning. An estimated 100 licenses were issued in other counties, while some county clerks shut their doors as they awaited Shelby's decision.
...
In court Monday, Utah lawyer Philip repeated the words "chaotic situation" to describe what has been happening in Utah since clerks started allowing gay weddings. He urged the judge to "take a more orderly approach than the current frenzy."

It wouldn't be chaotic if those county clerks would just do their jobs... although:

Adding to the chaos surrounding the situation is the fact that Utah Attorney General John Swallow stepped down about a month ago amid a scandal involving allegations of bribery and offering businessmen protection in return for favors.

Well this is most promising.

Hopefully the homos start marrying en masse.

Utah County is being sued for refusing licenses. Judge Shelby also warned counties today to issue them or else.

Obviously the current frenzy of homos in Utah courthouses is because the clerk simply must be dressed just as fabulously as the gays, and every single gay guy has a different idea of what that means. So clerks are being forcibly dragged by the homos to, A&F, Forever21, and JC Penny for proper attire multiple times a day, taking away from their real jobs of doing clerky things. It just chaos, CHAOS I tell you.

Only in Utah.😂😂😂

Hope he holds the actual people accountable, not just the counties. It's past time public officials using their power for their own purposes got slammed for their behavior instead of foisting the cost off on the taxpayers.

Utah County is being threatened with a lawsuit.

As of now, it is still issuing marriage licenses for straight couples, but not gays.

Incorrect. Utah County has actually been notified with a copy of the complaint.

Why no date? or other blank info?

I think it is intended to serve as a form anyone can use. It appears designed to satisfy the legal requirements specified in Utah Code.

Utah Code / Constitution; Utah Code; Title 63G; Chapter 7; Section 401

(2) Any person having a claim against a governmental entity, or against its employee for an act or omission occurring during the performance of the employee's duties, within the scope of employment, or under color of authority shall file a written notice of claim …

Yeah, that makes sense -- they're probably going to try to get multiple people to use the same complaint specifics.

BTW, did anyone else catch the typo?

Because you always keep an unsigned copy (or else signed s/) in a client's file. Unfilled forms are also kept for the purposes of adding additional clients/parties to a civil suit whom may arise and join at a later time. I do this routinely for passengers in accidents. Ask any paralegal besides myself.

Anyway, the Utah County clerk confirmed with the Salt Lake Tribune that he has received notice of a claim against his office.

Thompson confirmed Tuesday that he received the notice of claim and denied further comment.

In case you were wondering, yes I admit I should have cited my sources.

^ You are so damned hot in those undies that we all forgave you. lol

And Cache county just closed entirely, so that nobody would get licenses. Morons.

During the Civil Rights movement, Prince Edward County, Virginia, closed its schools for five years (from 1959 to 1964) rather than comply with integration orders.

They would sooner educate nobody than educate a black person.
