What is new on the Gay Marriage front?

That was the fear of bigots in NY and surprise suprise, it hasn't happened here nor will it happen anywhere else, as chuchres DO have a right to marry whomever they want and refuse whoever they want.

And that's a principle already well established. I know a couple who wanted to be married in a certain church, but the elders there only allowed weddings of non-members if they went through a marriage preparation counseling course with the pastor first, and they wouldn't rent it out for anyone else to use.

That's just one example; I know several others, for different reasons.

I see Indiana passed a "religious freedom" bill enabling them to discriminate.... I was originally very angry about it, wondering how long it is going to take to fight down all of those new laws coming along. Then, I suddenly thought that maybe we just shouldn't even bother, and just take our business elsewhere? What does everyone think about these laws and bills - should we even bother with them?

So long as it's a business that is owned and operated by the same people, and so long as they post that they are excluding some people and who those people are, I have no problem. But the moment they employ someone who isn't an owner, they should come under all the non-discrimination laws.

I have no interest in giving those people access to the free market and all the protections they enjoy as business people under a system of commercial laws designed by and for everyone's benefit.

Oh, you might like the sign I would make them post. It would have an image of two pigs wearing vests with the inscription "Some are more equal than others". Above that image would be the words "We judge people", and underneath the image it would have to list the people they exclude.

The panel for the 8th circuit has just been announced.
From the looks of it, it's going to be a 3-0 ruling against us.

Is it really going to matter in a few months though? We're all pretty confident in a supreme court win aren't we?

Yes, and most likely the 8th will just not issue a ruling and remand it back to the district courts following the Supreme Court handing down their ruling.

I think they intend to rush a bigoted ruling ahead of SCOTUS in the hopes they can change Kennedy's mind and to drive the point home that they hate us.

Fruitless to say the least as the court has been planning to rule in our favor since Windsor.

We should all be thankful that the 6th ruled against us since had they not we'd be relying on an unfavorable ruling from the 8th and waiting another year for a Supreme Court ruling.

Just about 4 weeks away from NOM's third annual March for Marriage and they have no sponsors nor speakers lined up

http://www.thenewcivilrightsmovemen..._for_marriage_lists_zero_sponsors_or_speakers

Also of note, they're only allowing one hour for speakers this year. The only two speakers listed thus far are Bishop Cordelione and Brian Brown (who really shouldn't be considered a speaker at all). I initially thought that them holding it on a Saturday would boost attendance, but if it's already struggling this much then perhaps it won't even matter LOL

Indeed, the 6th did us a favor.
Because the 8th is going to rule against us, and even when we get the likely ruling in our favor from the 5th, an en banc hearing would have reversed that.
We won't have to go through all that, it will be done by June.

A couple of more weeks until arguments... can't wait!

Does anyone plan to be there for the arguments? My friend and I are flying out the day before. So excited!!!
