  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

What is something that is really popular now, but in 5 years everyone will look back on and be embarrassed by?

I think it's going to be more like ten years before YouTube and TikTok personalities have been gone long enough for everyone to be embarrassed by them.

Unfortunately, reality TV has been around for a couple of decades now, and the people who are embarrassed by it have been embarrassed by it all along, and the people who still like it aren't going to be embarrassed by it then.

Then there's the distinction between the reality shows that really are humiliating (Survivor, The Bachelor/ette, Hoarders, Big Brother, the various European versions of Adam sucht Eva) and the competition shows that at last some intelligent folks seem to admire (Project Runway, The Great British Baking Show). RuPaul's Drag Race seems to fit in both categories.

And how about the reality TV competition that the Rijksmuseum is doing, trying to teach contestants to paint like Vermeer?

Come to think of it, since we JUBbers are proof that God made Adam and Steve as well as Adam and Eve --

-- there ought to be a European reality TV franchise called Adam sucht Ivan.

Reischfleger would be an excellent contestant.

All new houses being black and grey.

It looks so lowest common denominator, like the paint companies figured out they could just salvage the dregs at the factory.

Interiors are now gray.

Car paint looks like they stopped with the primer.

Urban clothes are a sea of black and gray.

Blech.

This is why you shouldn't get tattoos.

I would tell any child of mine who really wanted a tattoo that he/she/ze could get as many tattoos as ze liked (within reason), as long as they are temporary. As long as the tattoo is temporary, you can always change your mind about it.

OMG i Cant even with these fucking design shows! Everything is black grey or stark white! They are so afraid of color! Or the flip coin of it they will put every single conceiveable pattern known to the free world in a room the size of a closet and you need a seat belt just to sit on the floor! There is a show Sell This House with Roger Hazard (woof big gay bear!) and even though hes a mo he doesnt have any sense of interior design!

Hopefully reality television shows

I would have said (and hoped) the same,
But they've become far too ingrained into free-to-air culture.
Audiences are falling - as is revenue from advertising.
And 'reality' TV can be pumped out for next-to-nothing, compared to quality drama.

I don't see a future for F2A television.
