It seems like pretty much everyone I know including myself has to pay for most of their tuition with loans.
is the only way to go to a good college, aside from being rich or being genius
enough to get a full ride, to go into debt?

Really??? I get a full scholarship from the state, but I'm not a genius, I swear when I was in my senior year, I went to a scholarship interview like 5 times a week to try to get scholarships for 5 months. I never once wanted to rest, I just wanted to get as many interviews as possible, now I don't have to pay a cent.

your lucky man. I get a couple of scholarships, but no where near full ride

Do you live in the states??? If you do, do you get at least a % pay for by the states though??

yes i live in the US. but no the state pays for none of my college. i think my parents make to much money even tho they give none to me for school

my university was excellant in finding as much student aide as possiable. once you turned in your fasfa and the university would give you a report on what aide they would provide. They had consulors who'd sit down and find whatever mony they could for you. of course i went to a private school where there was a lot of funds avialbe only within the university from private doners. However, I'm sure lots of state schools have those too. I left with very few loans. less than 20 grand. Thanks to the finical aide department.

Isnt too bad here in the UK, just get student loans for tuition fees and maintenance (although its not alot!) you always get the full amount for tuition fees regardless of income. And dont have to start paying it back till you earn £15k a year :) and even then its like £3 a week :gogirl:

Sorry to kinda hijack the thread, but how does someone from the UK apply to go to university in America? I've always wanted to visit America and would love to study their :)

I wish I had a scholarship. I have paid for college so far via my parents, my paid internships, and my grandfather's money he willed to me. And that still didn't hardly pay for half of my schooling and I still have another year and half to go. :(

School is expensive, but if you have good enough grades, you could get an academic scholarship. Then you can apply for every scholarship available and chances are you'll get at least one of them if you are a reasonable hard-working person. Parents always help, too. If parents won't pay for it, go to work and school. It's tough but it will work. But yes, you will probably go into debt. I'm gonna be in debt and I have the help of 2 scholarships, a Florida residency discount, and a lot of financial help from my parents.

Between my daughter and herself, we have over 30,000 in student loans. One's got to do what one has to do.

I don't understand...what about your college fund? That's why your parents put it away for you.

The best advice I can give is to apply for your fasfa as soon as your able. Most public universities money is on a first come basis. My school automatically submits my application for many scholarships. The next thing is to apply for local and government scholarships. make sure to save all your essays cause you can most likely use them for the other applications. This has worked for me so far. Im in my third year and have only taken $13,000.00 out in loans. Granted Im off to Law school in a year or so and who knows what that shit is going to cost :-( Good Luck!

my parents didnt, and i dont think many do. i think for the most part either the parent takes out a loan or the student does.

i dont think its hard for out of country people to apply. I know many people from other countries who go to school with me.
just search through schools, find the right one for you, and apply online.
schools love students from other countries in the states. it makes there school look more multicultural.

Now here's a man who understands the law of supply and demand!

Personally, I worked 3 jobs to get myself through college. I drove a truck, packed boxes and was a bouncer in a pool hall. An odd position since I weighed 103 lbs.

Ultimately, it would have been a lot more fun, a lot more profitable and a lot more educational if i had only thought of Mtn's/Johnny Yen's advice. :p
