HT has always contained a diverse mix of topics that don't really fit into the more rigid categories of the other forums.

When I first joined JUB, nearly 15 years ago, the threads in HT were plentiful and fast-moving. Often threads moved onto page two, or even three, very quickly and the first page changed rapidly.

I thought that was why it was named 'Hot Topics', because it was the liveliest 'hottest' (non-porn) forum.
 
Five of those threads are mine, how many are by you.

With Telstra banned, seemingly forever :mad: things can only get worse/better.
 
Several people will remember that when this forum was started, this site was called Link Me All Over.

I wonder how many will remember that this forum, Hot Topics, was originally called 'Everything Under the Sun'.

'Hot Topics' is better.

I remember. I was a lurker in the LMAO days. I didn't join until the name had changed to JUB.
 
I just want to say I am a random person. That was the reason for the murder house thread.



As for food poisoning I got it so I was wondering if anyone else had had it.
 
I'm not sure what it was intended for, but it is a catch all for anything that doesn't fit into another category.
 
"Everything Under the Sun" is also the title of the second album by one of my (OK, my very favorite) bands, Jukebox the Ghost. Their fifth, "Off to the Races," was released this year. But here's a sample from that second album:
 
It's architecture, plain and simple.

The other forums are like the back rooms of the club. It's not that they are for sex, but they are for much more intentional conversation. Politics, coming out, entertainment, and so on, provide very focused areas to interact within. And, equally important, if someone has no interest in fetishes, or amateur porn, the forums offer a bit of sanctuary from seeing this or that all the time.

Hot Topics is the opposite of that. It's the commons, or plaza, in which people come for the melee, for the friction, for the variety, for the unexpected, for the routine meeting up with whoever shows up.

Considering that none of the forums see the froth of new threads that were once the hallmark of Hot Topics, the site has changed, perhaps irreversibly, to a few regulars and many lurkers (there were always many) who are likely both closeted men, non-English writers, and undoubtedly a good percentage of underage members who can't post for fear of outing themselves. What was one a thriving forum a few years ago is now a stale gay porn version of Cold Comfort Farm, with little of the humor.

What is odd is that occasionally there is a raft of new threads from members almost never posting in HT, but members for years. It's like the moon is full and suddenly is Dans Macabre. We need more of that lunacy if we knew how to elicit it.

What's strange with the recent threads? It's just the main section where a bit of everything is posted.
