I have two fur nephews. A siberian husky named Bruce and a pit/chihuahua/mastiff etc mix named Oliver. They're my favorites but I love all dogs.

The "never needs the vet" is a huge selling point. I've heard the stories about pure breed dogs that have some common issue. Often heart breaking--and on admittedly cold, practical terms expensive to deal with.
Another point: the mixed breed dog could be unique. You may never see a dog like that again. Meanwhile, in pure breed world, the goal seems to be having a perfect copy of the perfect example of the breed....
