Chinese and Japanese.

Also Korean and Vietnamese, that I've eaten. But apparently there are also Thai and Malaysian preps. Must be more examples...I even found an Italian version from Mario Batali.

It's bland and crunchy and I think a little boring. However, it's an excellent choice from an environmental perspective as the simplicity of the species has tended to protect it from the threats humans pose to more complex fish.

Shrimp...... fried shrimp and shrimp scampi. I could eat it every day.

I didn't even realize that jellyfish is edible; I have NEVER seen it on a menu and I think I've tried every one of the known east Asian cuisines except some of the less-prevalent Chinese ones, and Cambodian. What cuisine has jellyfish? I would be ALL in for trying it.

Of course not all kind of jellyfish; no one will ever serve the box jellyfish or Portuguese-man-o'-war! :p

Jellyfish is very popular in China and, to some extent, other Asian countries, like Vietnam and Thailand, especially those with a large number of Chinese people. They usually serve it individually in dim sum restaurants (as appetizers) or as a part of the cold cuts [pic below].

Vietnam also has jellyfish salad.

But maybe it's rare in America because not many Westerns are accustomed to jellyfish. Try cruising into the Chinatown.

I would say it's gelatinous though firmer than regular jelly, as well as crunchy. It does not have a distinct flavour/aroma; rather, jellyfish absorbs the flavour of the dressing/sauce used, so if it's bland, then it's not prepared very well.

A couple months ago my answer to the question would have been abalones, I have fond childhood memories of picking them every year at the autumn great tide and eating them the same evening, absolutely delicious, like giant scallops.

I hadn't have them for years since they're very expensive (protected specie here) and couldn't not order some when I saw it on a restaurant's menu two months ago... the dish was disgusting... I was so heartbroken... not sure if it's the way they were cooked (I only had them fried before, but at this restaurant they were boiled or something)... this makes me need to have some fried again to make sure...

I generally don't eat much sea food. But I do enjoy prawns. I use to like shark fin soup a lot back when I was a teen but I feel very guilty seeing how they are killed so I stopped eating them. They are pretty expensive tbh.

I like all kinds of seafood, but I had to go with fish. Nothing beats classic fish and chips! especially if it's the good stuff, and not those nasty processed triangles.

It's definitely hard to choose! I just love Seafood in general! Lobsters, crabs, mussels, prawns, oysters, crayfish ahhh!!! They are the SEX and my Kryptonite!

Ugh, I hate this dish. A restaurant I went to decided to tuck some peanuts hidden underneath it, which I'm allergic to. Which is why I'm very weary of Chinese restaurants. They have a very low allergy awareness, and have a habit adding peanuts in hidden places.

I've seen it all my life, but I never knew it was jelly-fish though. I just thought it was "something funny"

Swordfish is my all time favorite. Yellow fin tuna is good. Salmon, Sea Bass, Mahi Mahi, Flounder, Red Snapper are all good too. I'm not a fan of shark. Octopi are too chewy.

Many Chinese food do not have peanut in it, especially this dish (sesame is used). If you're talking about peanut oil however...
I cannot guarantee 100% though every restaurant adhere to the basic recipe. Different fish in different ponds.

You'd be surprised. In addition to the dish above, I've gotten it in soybean milk, and even on a steak where the peanuts were hidden underneath mayo (weird, I know.)
