Kay Burley ................................ her interviewing style is beyond painful - no insight, no wit, just a weird shitty robot personality that tends to confuse her interviewee rather than illicit anything of interest for them. Her interviews for the question time thing during the elections was just horrible.

That is the worst interview I have ever seen on TV. She didn't listen to or evaluate the answers but spent her time just trying to push the MP into making a statement she could criticise. The worst form of journalism possible.

I thought the MP came out of it exceptionally well.

How about we hear what journalists you like? Men are welcome here.

My two favourite journalists are Charles Dickens and George Orwell. All of Dickens's periodical writings have been collected in a four-volume edition where the well-known pieces that you find in Sketches By Boz, The Uncommercial Traveller, etc. appear in context alongside the more ephemeral stuff from the magazines where they originally appeared. I've only browsed through them, and there may be some deadwood, but a lot of it is still entertaining even though it's about news events of 150-plus years ago. He does like to go off topic in a most endearing way. Dickens must have been a great dinner guest.

When Orwell was writing for The Observer he called it "the enemy of nonsense". He must be turning in his grave. I read that paper regularly for decades but the last time I looked it was nothing but high-end celebrity tosh and silly lifestyle supplements.
