  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

What kind of American English do you speak?

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Northeast

Judging by how you talk you are probably from north Jersey, New York City, Connecticut or Rhode Island. Chances are, if you are from New York City (and not those other places) people would probably be able to tell if they actually heard you speak.

Mary and merry sound the same but marry is different from them
Eh? Mary and marry sound the same, but not merry.

LOL. You Americans are even affecting my true Englishness!!!

But I've never heard any of these terms for an easy class:
A crip course
A gut
A blow off

If I weren't such a hick I would posit as to why there's only 95% here.

Since I'm from Florida the results are what I expected.
My question is what type of math is this? Many of these only add up to 95%. Is that new math?

I think yours is only the second result where I've seen higher than 15% Dixie. I find that rather strange as well. What does somebody have to do, to get to 40% or 50% Dixie?

I assume that the "coke" choice for carbonated drink, is one of the weighted ones.

[EDIT: a couple other results with a high Dixie influence appear after yours, but still not very many]

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Inland North
You may think you speak "Standard English straightout of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like"Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop".

The only one I didn't really know what to do with was the easy class word. I don't call them any of those.
