So decades on...I had French and Spanish....they stopped teaching Latin just as I was in Grade 10.

I picked up functional Italian when I studying in Rome and later found that no matter where I was...I reverted to the 'wrong' language.

We got our group through Morocco with high school French and have stuttered along in Friesian, Spanish and Italian over the years.....I find myself talking to my cats in Frisian a lot of the time but if I am in France Spanish or Italian trip off the tongue and so it goes.

Are you a cunning linguist and can you keep them all in order?

I was taught French but nothing but the basics took, mainly due to a bastard of a teacher.

I had 4 years of French. Mainly remember the curse words.

I was taught French and Latin. I couldn't grasp either then and I certainly don't remember any of it now.

I learned basic schoolboy French, which I can still get by with the basics
I got kicked out of the class because I was more interested in 'playing' with the boy next to me than learning

I was supposed to learn spanish, i picked up some not anything to have a conversation with anyone I can say some ridiculous shit ie Yo tengo un gato en mis pantalones, me gusta tu chocha con pan, pan dulce, lechuga, cebolla, cerveza, cafe, leche, queso, hamburgesa. Through skype I learned to say Senor Me gusta tu verga es muy guapo!

I had some Spanish in high school. All I can do is count to 10. However, as a retirement project for the last seven months or so, ich lerne jetzt Deutsch zu sprechen, und es geht mir ziemlich gut. But I can't understand a lot yet. I need to build more vocabulary and the grammar is really complicated.

studied Spanish --which would have come in handy had I paid better attention---as I have had two non-speaking English ---spanish boyfriends---

I had 2 years of French, but never having a reason to apply it, am greatly out of practice.

I took some Latin in junior high, but never really mastered it and have forgotten what little I learned. Haven't studied any other languages.

I was a fool and didn't take a second language in school.

When I was a kid though I knew Malay (my father's language) and Swahili in a very most basic form.

German in school. Can speak a bit but can understand more. I remember my German teacher fondly.

Currently teaching myself Spanish. :)

I had 3 years of Spanish in HS. I've lost a lot of it because I don't ever use it, there is almost no opportunity here. I can read it better than speak it, although that's still pretty poor. I went to Venezuela several years ago and spent some time trying to refresh my memory of speaking it prior to going...I couldn't understand much if anything what anyone said. They spoke so fast! My mind went blank when I tried to speak. #-o Thankfully everyone I encountered spoke English too so, when I could, I tried to muddle through speaking some. They were so kind, but I'm sure they rolled their eyes and snickered behind my back at the American idiot.

Latin, French, Portoguese and Italian. Proficient in Italian and in French. But lack true fluency. Forgotten pretty much all of the Portuguese. Can read some Latin, and enjoy browning the Loeb editions which contain the Latin and English texts on facing pages. I know some basic modern Greek and Russian.
