What lies could I feed a urologist to have insurance pay for a circumcision?

This will sound petty and stupid, but I don't really care because I want to do this either way so I decided to ask and search around in case I can save myself some money.

So I recently got health insurance for the first time in my entire life (I'm a U.S. citizen living in the mid-atlantic) because the university I attend began making it mandatory for all undergrads to have it. I've been deeply unsatisfied with the appearance of my penis for as long as I can remember, I can distinctly recall thinking it was ugly when I was 5. It is several, and when I say several I mean QUITE A LOT OF FUCKING shades darker than the rest of my skin, making it look dirty. I also have about an inch and a quarter longer foreskin that extends after the head of my penis, and my perineal raphe (that tissue line the runs up your balls and shaft) is crooked almost a quarter of the way for about an inch before sharply going back straight. While I've never had any parters comment on it directly, the looks on their faces the first time they see it say it all, so... I want to get circumcised. Yes, I know its unnecessary, I know it will hurt, I know I might lose sensitivity, blah blah blah. Those are all things Ive taken in consideration for the greater part of the last decade and I've made up my mind.

I know that insurance will only cover it if it's deemed to be non-cosmetic, and urologists around my area charge upwards of $1200 plus fees for anesthesia, anti-inflammatory drugs and other expenses, which I totally don't have to just spend on getting the skin on my dick snipped off. I need to know what I could possibly tell a urologist to get insurance to pay for it. For example could I say I've had an inflamed head a couple of times in the past and don't want it to keep reoccuring? I grew up having all routine and surgical medical procedures done overseas because of the ridiculous health care costs in the US so whatever doctor I go to will just have to take my word for it. ANY HELP OR IDEAS GREATLY APPRECIATED PLEASE!!!

Well, publically asking how to defraud someone probably isn't the most genius idea you've ever had. Unless you have phimosis, recurring infections (that do NOT respond to antibiotics) or another deformity/abnormality, then the most you could hope for is to find a very pro-circ doctor.

Or just pay about $1750 and get it over with. That's unfortunately about the cheapest you can get without running into any problems.

I find it sad you needed to justify yourself on this. I mean, people get plastic surgery all the time to look better.

Can't actually help (moreso cause i'm from Aus) but thought i'd mention, expect ALOT of the wankers on here to come and tell you you shouldn't go through with it and how its wrong (Which in my opinion should be a banable offence)

No BS - get cut if you want to but when you're done with that, find out if your insurance covers therapy as circumcision will not change the color of your penis.

To answer your question: you don't have to lie, nor should you lie to a doctor. A circumcision isn't considered a cosmetic procedure. As long as your insurance approves it as medically necessary (called precertification), then it will be covered. And you can be honest about your precert concerns with the doctor- they're used to dealing with them and he will know what diagnosis codes to use to ensure that it is covered.

But from a practical standpoint....

Given all the concerns that you have, is this really going to make you satisfied with the appearance of your penis? If it does- fine, that is your decision. If you are not 100% sure this will change things for you, then reconsider. All surgery has risks- anesthesia and infection, for example- and you might not like the way it looks after the surgery (adult circs heal differently than infant circs). It would not be good to undergo all of this and still not be happy.

And another practical concern- take a look at your policy deductibles for outpatient surgery. You're still probably going to end up paying out-of-pocket for some of the cost. The total cost is probably going to be more like $5,000 to get this done if it is done under general anesthesia and your deductible could be as much as $1,000- payable in advance.

And last concern- if you're not from the US, do you have someone who can help take care of you after the surgery? The hospital will not release you unless you have someone to drive you home. You will need help the first day until the anesthesia wears off. And this is going to be not a lot of fun for about a week after the surgery, so you will need a good friend or family member to help out for a few days.

Some food for thought:

A circumcision will not make your penis-skin lighter.

A scar will not make the people look less surprised.

Some skin bridges as a result of the healing might even give you more weird looks.

By the way .. a "darker" penis is pretty common.

I spoke to a man from Ohio who required a circumcision in his 40s. His insurance was billed $4,200 dollars, but he only had to pay $748 dollars out-of-pocket. Still, the hospital billed the insurance company $1,000 for the general anesthesia, and another $1,500 just to enter the surgery room. The insurance was also billed for the sutures and follow-up visits.

Trust me: You'd be much better off having it done under local analgesia in a doctor's office. If you could manage to find a professor of urology who accepts outside patients, then you could probably get it done for a little under $1,000. . .assuming you don't mind possibly having students watch and take notes.

Just think about this very carefully, and talk to the right people first. A gay porn forum PROBABLY wouldn't be my first place to go to if I wanted to ask about any surgical procedure.

EVERY insurance company pays things differently. It depends on the policy you have, NOT what someone else had to pay. Read your policy very carefully. Call them and ask what criteria they use, how much they pay, what your deductible and co-pays will be ect. Ask them to put EVERYTHING in writing BEFORE you schedule the procedure.

I've had 17 surgeries in my life and quite a few different insurance companies. ALL of them paid things differently. You have to do your homework and GET IT IN WRITING FIRST.

As far as getting advice "from a gay forum". This is the perfect place for advice. There are doctors and other health care workers that are members here. There are several guys that have had it done and can offer insight and experience. There are people that work with insurance or know about it's inner workings. Don't be so fast to knock this place. We can and do help a lot of members here.

Rabbis use no numbing agents, so the baby boys they circumcise feel everything. The boys are given sugar...

Might I suggest spending the money to go to a therapist instead to help you work out the issues you have with yourself and your body image that would make you desire mutilating yourself just to fit in.

A correction: Rabbis don't do circumcisions. It is a mohel that performs circumcisions. Many mohelim are rabbis but not all mohel are (and conversely, not all rabbis are mohelim). And mohelim typically use a topical anesthetic gel or ointment.

In Islam, the practice has a bit more variety. In more rural areas, boys are not given anesthetic and it would be considered unmanly to do so. In more urban areas, the sunnet or a physician performs the circumcision after an injection of local anesthetic.

That is not necessarily true... Some moyels will use anesthia - particularly on an adult male.

And, yes, this is a wise choice - - You should have no problem finding one in your area.

And don't concern yourself with any opinions about mutilating what nature gave you - YOU and only YOU can and should decide whether to get cut. It's your dick and you are the one that sees it every day - therefore, you need to be happy with the way it looks and functions. And an overly extended foreskin (which is what this sounds like) could indeed cause you problems.

I say, if this is what you want to do - go for it.

I have a question. Are you sure that the look from your partners' faces is because you have a dark dick? It could just be that you have a bigger one than they'd imagine or something else. They never mentioned, so how do you know they were disgusted?

I'm pretty sure they are reacting to the look of horror and apprehension on your own face before they go below your belt. If you look like they're about to uncover the gut-sucking beast from Aliens when they unbutton your pants, yeah, they'd all look pretty scared just because of your reaction.

If you are doing it for the reaction of others though, it will not please everyone. I for instance would never hold a circumcision against a guy who had no choice, but for some reason I would find it incredibly desperate and unerotic if he did it for my benefit. So to me, your change would be a turn-off even though I'm circ'd myself. Weigh the options - if you like circ'd dicks yourself, you could find a cut guy like me who likes them uncirc'd - then you would save the time, money, pain, and ethical hassles of fraud, and you'd be with a guy whose dick you like to look at, and who likes the look of your dick...problem solved...simple...no need for anaesthetic.

Also, unlike what paatreides says, you are clearly intending to mutilate what nature has for you. However, as an adult, that is your right. You can put plugs in your earlobes, spikes in your cheeks, and you can even get part of your dick chopped off. Just know that it won't impress everyone you might hope it would.
