What really is trolling ?

I may not be able to write a definition for it, but I know it when I read it...... one sentence into a post.

Trolling is the willful use of rhetorical fallacies to evince a position whose content is irrelevant, and where the actual intent is simply to determine how long the rhetorical fallacy goes undetected.

Much as in the medical condition of hypersensitivity many people react to benign stimuli as "evidence of trolling" where in fact no rhetorical fallacy or deceptive intent exists.

The best way to deal with trolling, or apparent trolling, is simply to point out the logical fallacy in the argument with a minimum of histrionics and move on. A solid, simple, well-constructed argument will prevail against a trolling argument, or against an argument which appears deceptively trollish, or against a position which is merely misguided.

Since the response is the same in either case, troll identification is usually a waste of time, and can be off-putting to people whose position is merely different from your own. Troll mis-identification can itself be a form of trollish behaviour or at the very least serving as a distraction which undermines one's own arguments.

Finally, meta-trolling could be defined as the act of attempting to elicit such an over-reaction through the use of completely non-trolling observations.

So for example. If someone where to come into a thread with someone requesting for the communities opinion of their looks and personality. And you happen to say " You are kind of fat--almost look smelly. And you have bad skin and stubby knee caps". But you sound like a smart person... Would that be considered trolling considering that FACT that was an actual opinion and you more likely would have said the exact same thing rather in person or online ?

Nevertheless, i think it has to do with people being overly sensitive. I seen plenty of other crazy shit said on other forums and on here and not a single one of them has really gotten a "reaction" out of me. Clamber aboard and remove as much clothing as prudent..Aim boat for far far
away spot, start motor on very slow...now, using your innate good sense,
cast Baited line and trail it behind boat.

Careful now, if a fish jumps on your hook or forces itself into you boat...you
are fucked and will have to clean fish and grill for dinner. Sometimes you can
surreptitiously re-immerse the fish, but sometimes you must bring one home.
Being skunked will only buy so many free days. I use a fish market down by the
confluence of the Sacramento and American River every third or fourth 'trip'..

Oh my,

While out trolling on the seas of JUB it would appear I am a far better

TROLLER than I thought. Hooked a Boston Baked Troll and a California

Speckled Brown Troll. Not much on the credible edible scale, they will

make excellent emulsifiers for the garden. I can only hope that they

do not exacerbate the equine fly population nor serve as instruments of

propagation for other vermin among the botanicals. .

I think it is probably helpful to distinguish between a pursefight and reciprocal trolling. Sometimes people are just openly having a tiff and that is not trolling.
