OK, so I grouped them all together, because I'd like everyone's opinion or experiences that they have done to themselves, or even some that they know information about.

I really really really REALLY want LASIK eye surgery, because without my contacts, I could probably be considered legally blind. Contacts are much easier than glasses, but I hate waking up in the morning not being able to see the alarm clock a foot away from my face. Info here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LASIK

Have you ever had LASIK surgery, or any corrective surgery to fix your vision?

My second question is -

The other thing I really really REALLY want is Invisalign. It takes awhile I know, but they give you trays to wear throughout the time that is necessary to fix the alignment of your teeth. My teeth aren't horribly crooked, but I want them straightened. Info here - http://www.invisalign.com/generalapp/us/en/index.jsp

Have you ever had Invisalign, or any teeth straightening procedures aside from braces/retainers?

I know both are horribly expensive. I can deal with that.

I want YOUR experiences that pertain to the given issues, or someone's experiences that you are well acquainted with.

Thanks!!

Also, why I included any other experiences, please try to dissuade me from any other procedures that could seem superfluous to some.

Re: What surgeries/procedues/changes have you done to your body????

I've been told, I'm not a candidate for Lasik surgery. I'd love to be able to have that done and see perfect. I'm near-sighted in one eye, and far-sighted in the other. And the severe astigatism doesn't help either. I had my eyes operated on when I was 12 for 'floaters', which are really just carbon deposits on the eye. No laser back then! They cut my eyes open!

I have floaters, and a bunch of other annoying eye shit, but they assure me my retina is fine and all that, so I do not really care.

I am up for pectus excavatum correction with the Nuss procedure in December, though, which is pretty huge. Bars in my chest for two years. Other than that no surgeries except for getting my wisdom teeth out and a few stitches when I was like three.

wisdom teeth.

when i was in canada a number of years back i had developed an ingrown toe nail on the big toe. it got infected, and the nail porting going into my flesh was pretty sizeable. they were going to operate, and i asked about anesthesia and they said "oh no we dont normally do that" and i was like WTF??? so i said HELL NO, and waited till i got back to the US to do it right. after 8 stabs with a 20 gauge needle, they proceeded,,,but i could still feel pressure...so 4 more stabs.......hurt like hell. then i just sat back and tried not to look. the serated dagger they pulled out of there was huge.

I can't be Lasiked - my corneas are too thin to risk them not reattaching properly, at last count, but I know exactly what you mean about not being able to see a foot in front of your face - really really shit.

I've had the wisdom teeth done, though.

The only intentional modification was a tattoo in January, which I love.

Appendectomy when i was 12, with complications. Got an infection, had to stay in the hospital for over a week, a doctor prescribed two medicines for me that shouldn't interact. Consequently i started posturing (it's a term for craning your neck back involuntarily), and had a seizure during which i'm told i succeeded in giving several nurses bloody noses, but then again i don't remember anything about it because of the seizing and blacking out and such.

And i never did get any feeling back in the skin right around the scar.

I had three separate surgeries on my penis as a child because I was born with more than one peing hole. It's quite a tricky operation and the first and second times didn't work but the third time it worked out. I think the technical name for it is hyperspadia but i'm not sure. It's a very common occurence apparently.

I've considered both procedures very seriously. Still do. Maybe even getting closer.

But I put all that on hold when I had some serious crap happen with my innards. Ultimately, I thought I was having bad indigestion for 2 years, but I was killing myself with a badly infected gallbladder. In the hospital for weeks. Lots of complications. They darn-near killed me at one point. 6 months and 4 "procedures" later things are still not quite right.

So I'm not in any rush to risk much of anything right now.

I had a wisdom tooth yanked out. But under local, since my dentist wasn't licensed to do general. No real problems until the drive home, when I thought I'd pass out from the pain.

I'm probably not a good candidate for lasik, mainly because my eyes are really sensitive. I have major problems even putting eye drops in.

OK, I will do this so that you can understand categorically that when you are old, the list can be rather long.

Age 3, repair for a broken nose. Broken in a car accident,
I was run over while I was playing safely, (hahaha) in my yard.

Rhinoplasty for the broken nose when I was 12.
I wore a lead mask for three months, it weighed ten pounds.
When taken off, I literally needed to learn how to maintain my
balance and stand up without falling down.

Age 14, repair for a broken nose. I was playing school basketball.
I drove for a lay up and crashed into the wall, of cinder blocks.

Age 17, repair for a broken nose. I was playing highschool football.
An opposing tackle, deliberately stepped on my face with his big metal cleated foot. He said some unrepeatable things to me, and
I was taken away in an abulance.

Age 44, Cholestectomy, (removal of the gall bladder) the old fashioned way, and I will always have an interesting curving scar across my abdomen.

Age 59, repair to my urethra, for having been town in a procedure following my gall bladder surgery, when I was cathetorized after general anesthesia.

Age 60, surgical treatment of my clavical and upper spine when it was believed I would never walk again after a serious car accident.

That is all up to today aside from diagnostic procedures such as a colonoscopy, and prostate biopsies. Enough already. My eyes are OK and I do not believe I could tolerate contact lenses. How young do I want to look.? I am studly and deaf, and that is OK.

I've lead a rather healthy life until about a year ago when I lost a kidney to cancer (I've got a lovely scar under my left bottom rib about 10" long... anyone wanna see it?). Now, a little over a year later, I just finished up 5 weeks of radiation - and - if my check-up next week doesn't go well - looking chemo in the face. The damn stuff! :grrr:

only surgery after I got in a car accident. Other than that, nothing

No surgery (I look good with scars), but on a personal body mod note I have several tattoos and piercings.

I had my tonsils removed when I was 7. Pretty impressive, eh?

I did that also. I had my appendix removed when I was 39 and was visiting friends in Sonoma County for Thanksgiving. I ended up stuck there for a week and had to hire a hustler (whom I met in San Francisco) to drive my car back to L.A., since I was not able to step on brakes or the accelerator, which would have strained my abdominals.

I've considered Lasik surgery (because I'm nearsighted), and if this had been available when I was young, I would really have done it. The main reason I would want it would be so that I could see while surfing, and I stopped surfing a couple of years ago. I still go bodyboarding, but I can do that fine without great vision. I lost quite a few contact lenses while surfing, and I even tried prescription swimming goggles, but that just trapped salt water and made me even more blind. Those are great for swimming pools, but not for the ocean. Now, if I had the surgery done, I would have to wear reading glasses to read or computer glasses to see the computer screen, and so it doesn't seem like much of an advantage. Plus, I can now see extremely well very close up, and this is helpful in my work. So when I'm working, I wear regular glasses and take them off when I want to see close detail.

I'm planning on Lasik at some point. I started to make arrangements to have it done last year, but the girl and I broke up and I was stuck with too many bills. I have terrible vision.

Yeah, I see the blood vessels in my eyes. Whenever I exercise heavily I get flashes of my veins and shit, and I have 'sparky' floaters if I ever get up to fast or whatever. It freaks the shit out of me, but they assure me my eyes are fine.
