What to do about North Korea.

You know how to read. Pro-active means prevention - before nukes drop on cities, not after. The United States of America should be the peacemaker in the world. There must be options other than annihilation. But dropping bombs is a whole easier than the real hard work of making peace. That takes time, effort, and patience.

But....OK Got it. It's our fault we didn't bomb them back to the 4th century 60 years ago so let's do it now.

Who said anything about "bomb[ing] them back to the 4th century"? That you can get that out of anything I said suggests a serious problem.

BTW, history demonstrates that those so focused on "making peace" that they fail to employ violence at the proper time just make things worse -- that is, after all, how we got World War II: other nations failed to prepare for war, so we all got one.

I blame President Trump for making the current situation worse by "trash talking" instead of choosing his words responsibly. It seems that N Korea is looking at Guam as a possible target.

I think you give him too much credit -- I don't think he is capable of choosing words, I think he never learned that there are times to keep his mouth shut and times to regulate what comes out of it. He's a seventh-grader who never grew up mentally or emotionally.

As for Guam, Japan and South Korea have rather firmly warned NK about making such a move.

And again, we're in this position in the first place because we failed to use force when we should have. We created the current threat by not using weapons when we should have. North Korea is a monster made by the U.S.

And...the context of this thread is primarily about (weapons of) nuclear war with North Korea.

Therefore, I conclude your view is the current threat exists because we didn't nuke them when we should have. If not, what weapons should we have used and when and how should we have used them?

But whatever, what matters is what we do now.

So ok, we need to be prepared and I trust that we are. I just don't see that we have exhausted every option other than war. War should always be the last choice. But you just seem too eager for the last choice.

We seem close to war with North Korea, and whatever Trump does, democrats will say it was wrong. This is your chance before it starts. My guess is that we will simultaneously attack with conventional bombs, electro magnetic pulse and the bunker buster. NK not only has missiles, but a line is massive artillary along the border. We need to knock them all out at once.
China is worrisome. I doubt if it wants war, but it would love to us humiliated, weakening our alliances around the world. Has it given NK weapons that we do not anticipate? It's position seems ambiguous. While claiming to want peace it dies nothing to help us avoid war.

What to do? Request the President to delete his twitter account and ponder what he says for at least 20 seconds before he speaks. Maybe even consult people who know what's going on. China might want to see the US diminished, but it surely doesn't want the complications of a nuclear war on it's border. Going to battle to support a spoiled rich kid would be a tough sell, I'm sure.

Interesting enough, the North Korean side has been quiet for the past several days. I wonder if China got through to them and told them to knock off the rhetoric.

That's entirely in your imagination.

Japan and South Korea are more than powerful enough to take care of North Korea.
Why is the USA always put it's head first ? :/

According to James Clapper:
The levels of paranoia in North Korea is so high ... foreign leaders should visit them and go from there. You cannot say stuff and attack them without go inside the country and talk to them in person.

For another aspect...THIS is a great reminder that we are talking about perhaps the most oppressed people on the planet and the stories are heartbreaking....

This is one Brave Girl...:=D:

Thing is...I would hate for the rest of the world to view Americans as they view donald trump....and so it is wise to remember the people there are just as much victims of kim jong-un's bullying as the rest of the world..

I would hate to bomb them....they are born into that horrible world....

All that has been tried and much more. Trump's threats seem to have had the effect of shutting Kim up, at least for awhile. But the development of nuclear missiles continues unabated.

Or maybe it was China and Japan and South Korea hovering over Kim ready to send him to oblivion, not to mention Guam. Trump did nothing more than shovel coal into the boiler, and, as you may or may not know, shovelling coal into the boiler unabated can make it blow up, and Trump would be the first to say, "Oh, Fu.....!!"

China may, indeed, have told him to back down, but it was in response to Trump's threat finally to use force.

Since when did world leaders visited North Korea?
I cannot remember any

Chomsky hates the United States. It would be rare, if not, unprecedented for him to agree with anything we do.

He goes in details of why this and why that in history.
You do not have details for opposing his views at all.

Also, he critercise America = helping America to correct their wrongs
Not hate America.

What is the difference between South Korea & the US doing the military exercises
and North Korea doing weapon testing ??

Kim has expressly and publicly said many times that he will destroy the US, and this has been going on for years.
