What type of housing would you like to live in when you are elderly?

The nation's first low-cost housing development aimed specifically at gay, lesbian and transgender retirees opened its doors in Hollywood on Thursday with a promise to provide a dignified haven for elderly homosexuals to live out their days.

A bunch of broke old queers and trannies in Hollywood.

Joking aside this is beginning to be an important problem which must be solved.

Ideally I would like to remain in my own home and just have social service aids come visit when necessary.

But that may not be possible due to ill health or some form of incapability. So what do I do then? Have you seen retirement homes? All that institutionalised furniture and such bad taste in decoration. If I was mobile could I come and go as I want? If I fancy cruising at midnight is that permissable?

All those personal treasures that one has collected over the years and put a personal stamp on your home - can one take them with you? Can you even hang pictures on the wall?

Is one obliged to live in a room that is decorated as a bedroom with a huge hospital bed stuck in it?

I must admit I am starting to find the whole idea horrifying.

If the moment every arrives I think I will just take a walk into the setting sun to never return.
