Everyone thought (and took for granted) I'd take over the family farm. After a few years working it, I couldn't see the rest of my future there. My tomboy sister took it on in the end. Role reversal

to be honest with you i don't think people thought one iota about my furture as most of them thought little of my present/presence.​

I have no idea if there were any hopes or expectations for me though evidence does suggest that I was supposed to go to university and become something high powered. However I gave up on A levels to get into the real world of work and have been here ever since in any number of roles but at least I enjoyed them all and got a lot from them and still do.

nearly everyone who lived in the town i grew up worked in one of the four factories in the industrial park.

up until i realized i was gay, i always assumed that i would end up working there.

Growing up, I lived in the adjacent town from where I now teach. At the time, I had planned to go to college, and teach in the school district where I graduated from. When I got hired, it was a little weird for me at first, because I was now working for the "rival" district. Over the course of time though, it has proven to have been the best move for me.

NASA. I wanted to be an astronaut. As a toddler, I screamed at the TV, "I want to go with them" watching the Apollo moon landing. My earliest memory.

Might still get the chance, but it won't be with NASA. Anyone have a million dollars to spare?
