What was the most difficult subject in school?

Hmm .. I would say when I was taking algebra my junior year in high school. I just didn't get it, I worked really hard though. I finished with a B. oh yeah, chemristy as well.

Math. When you don't practice or study enough, it can be very difficult. At the same time it's easier for some and more difficult for others. I'd say it's the most polarizing subject in education!

ENGLISH(And languages in general) I hate English(The Course), the most bullshit course that exists! /vomit

Overall, Spanish probably was my biggest nemesis in middle school/high school/college, but Algebra I in 7th grade or Calc 3 in college are close runners up.

I don't get why math is so hard to grasp. It is a quantitative study. There are only right and wrong answers. Hell that is the only reason I was able to get a 4.0 in Price Theory is because it was ALL calculus. Of course the application of calculus to an economics course is pretty much nonsensical (except econometrics which is about modeling).

Sadly enough for me, creative writing classes. It is not that I have poor writing skills (that is to say when I put the effort in), but rather I have always had trouble expressing myself through words. I think it goes along with my reserved personality. Interestingly enough, I have a pretty active imagination. I can analyze pretty much anything you hand me and write a synopsis on it.
One of my favorite sayings to this date...

"If it takes longer than five minutes to read, it better contain smut."

I think one fo the variables in what was the hardest course is the teacher. I went to a catholic school and religion was awfully difficult, at ties combined with theology and philosophy. ugh!. And the teachers were either priests or nuns. They were determined in those religion classes.

Math is not difficult, a lot of times is the teacher. plenty of math teachers do NOT know how to properly teach math of have the patience to do so. My part time job is being a math tutor and for some reason I happen to be a good tutor, patient and the kids improve their grades with me. It is gratifying. and yes first time I meet them all i hear is " I hate math!". That changes at the end of the term, they still dislike it but understand it better.

Math! I failed so hard at the subject.

Physics, I just can't wrap my brain around it.

But math was always easy for me cuz I'm kind of a... geek. The more abstract the better.

And I agree with Red Storm, one-on-one tutoring is definitely the best way to teach math. Get the student to talk out loud as he works a problem, then you can find out right away where the mistake is.

By the way, there was a "math reform" movement for a while there, that worked much better for most students. But it was killed by the right-wingers in the Bush Education Department.

Physics...gave me nightmares...and it didn't help that my classmates are overachieving junior students...and I was a Senior.

Math is doable for me.
English is ok.

Biology = Love
Art = Love Love Love

As in my post years ago, it was LITERATURE in high school. I'd have to put SPEECH as a close second, though.

In college it was INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS, the only college course I didn't manage at least a C- in my four years.

- physics - sometimes I was very good, and sometimes I got really bad grades, but it had more to do with the teacher than the subject
- chemistry. I wasn't completely bad, but I've had troubles geting an A, in primary school due to the same teacher as in physics.
- physical education. Sport, except for table tennis, skiing, swimming and occasionally volleyball was never my forte. Obviously, we did not swim or ski at school, and table tennis wasn't part of the program either. And I usually did not like jumping high/far, soccer or basketball.

I've had occasional problems with other subjects, usually when I've said or done something rude to a teacher.

Math for sure.

I can get by with pretty good grades, but I *really* have to put my mind to it

Luckily, my degree only requires 3 hours worth of Math!

It was probably History or English... but i did pretty well at school... i actually miss Math class (how geeky)

AP Chemistry. I eked by in first-level chemistry, but when I took AP, a combination of no longer caring and really just not getting the material got me a B- (which I suspect was heavily curved). I got either a 1 or a 2 on the AP exam. I can't remember. But definitely my worst subject.

I was pretty good in everything else, particularly biology and English, though math was a problem sometimes. But by the time I was in Calc, I loved it.

English Literature - One of the first assignments was to read Beowulf in Middle English. Had to have a book to translate. It was horrible.

Since I needed a literature credit I tried

American Literature - (I thought it would be easier) One of the first assignments was Ben Franklin's Diary. I buckled down and read the damn thing. The questions were (like) What happened on such-and-such date? WTF?!!

I HATED literature.

Chemistry and biology! Science in general usually frayed my nerves.

I'm sad at all of the math troubles in this thread!
I love math! (I guess thats partly why I'm becoming an engineer <_<; )
Although for high school, history was my least favorite subject. It already happened and bored the hell out of me.
In college, Calc 3 (I found this to be the most useless calculus of them all...) and Thermodynamics were the courses giving me trouble.
